    Default Test Drive Unlimited 2

As long as TDU2 is atleast still a simcade like TDU was(which is my favorite racer) then fall 2010 I'll have a new favorite racing game. This game will be an easy first day purchase.

They're creating a new island but also recreating the original island so you have pretty much everything from the first game intact. If the music sucks like the original TDU did, 360 owners will have the ability to play different music. Hopefully this is one of those games that allow PS3 owners to play different music(certain games allow for it, other games don't.)

Quoted here is an IGN preview from a video showing and link to a trailer.

    http://ps3.ign.com/dor/objects/18326...er1_42810.html Trailer.

The videogame landscape is filled with racing games. With such a crowded genre, how are developers supposed to create a product that can stand out from the rest while still maintaining a certain familiarity to capture an audience in the first place? The developers at Eden Studios are tackling these challenges in Test Drive Unlimited 2, a "massively open online racer" that combines the online functionality of an MMO with a traditional arcade racer. I recently had the chance to sit down and watch a demonstration of Test Drive Unlimited 2 and I was impressed with the amount of multiplayer options available to players. With a lovely Mediterranean locale and some extremely exotic cars to drive, Test Drive Unlimited 2 has the potential to be the next great multiplayer racer.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is set on the island of Ibiza. The developers at Eden Studios used actual topographic information to design the environment and recreated a number of the island's towns in detail. All the road networks are designed to be as true to life as possible, so players will feel like they're really racing on Ibiza itself. The island has a full day/night cycle (and weather effects!) which spans approximately two hours, so players will be driving their cars of choice through rainy nights and brilliant sunsets.

But like the first Test Drive Unlimited, this sequel isn't just about racing. Test Drive Unlimited 2 is designed to celebrate a luxury lifestyle in a number of ways, from expensive cars to lavish homes. The game tells a "rags to riches" story, so players will be earning money to purchase new items, be it clothing or new cars. It's great to see a racing game that pays attention to elements outside of traditional races, as a lot of care has gone into designing the game's interior environments. These environments are feasible because Test Drive Unlimited 2 allows players to walk around the game world with their avatar in first-person. More importantly, almost any location in-game is also a location where other players can meet up and socialize.

This multiplayer functionality is an absolutely crucial part of the Test Drive Unlimited 2 formula. Players can walk around each other's homes and even peruse car dealerships together. A full set of emotes has been built into Test Drive Unlimited 2 and the game will obviously support voice chat for those with headsets available. I was impressed that players shopping for new cars will even be able to climb inside a potential purchase with another player in the passenger seat. Friends can discuss the interior and admire the intricate detail Eden Studios put into rendering the leather stitching, dash boards, and the countless dials that come with cars of high class.

Although the obvious appeal of Test Drive Unlimited 2 will come from racing against the competition, you'll be able to invite other players into your car for joy rides, which sounds like a fantastic feature if you want someone to give you directions to a particularly charming spot or good road to race on. Little touches like these definitely enhance the game's multiplayer support.

If you're interested in plain ol' racing, there's also plenty of that to do in this game. Players can create their own challenges and put up personal funds as the reward for completion, or they can bet on races and instantly challenge another player in the area. Of course, this multiplayer support is made even more robust with the return of racing clubs, which was a feature in the previous game. Adrenaline junkies will be able to form clubs and purchase swank club houses to meet in which even come with their own exclusive club cars. Rival clubs will be able to participate in club challenges or clubs can compete internally to see who's the best and brightest driver of the group.

All these online mechanics would be great on their own, but there's a full suite of options for those more interested in their own car collection. Players will be able to tweak their rides with custom paint jobs, decals, rims and more, and they also have full creative control over their avatar's appearance. Remember, Test Drive Unlimited 2 is all about living the luxurious life, so don't be afraid to spend money on that vacation home in Hawaii.

Yes, Hawaii returns in Test Drive Unlimited 2. The entire island is fully traversable and has been modified to keep the locale fresh for players that sunk time into the original game. I was amazed that the developers would take the time to build a whole new island and then include a reworked version of the original game world as well. Talk about an ample supply of content...

Unfortunately, the demonstration of Test Drive Unlimited 2 was entirely hands-off, so I couldn't play. But from the looks of things, the game was already running smoothly (even in its early state) and the car models were slick. My only concern was the actual handling of the cars, because they looked to be a little stiff when the developers were playing. There's no way for me to know for sure, of course, so I'll just have to reserve my judgment for when I can play the game for myself.

It's worth noting that the demonstration ended with a hot tub party on a massive yacht. Amazingly, one of the homes players will be able to purchase is an actual yacht that cars can drive onto and take elevators up to the deck. As the camera pulled back to reveal the setting sun, the Eden Studios representative presenting the game concluded with my favorite sizzler line of all: "with Test Drive, the possibilities are Unlimited... 2." Epic win!

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is scheduled to launch this fall for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. And according to the developers, there's plenty more to come.

I'm a big fan of TDU (got almost all the achievments) and I'm really looking forward to this sequel. It's certainly one of the best racing games ever, very underrated.

Agreed. I own it on both the PS2 and the 360. The detail differences are......startling, lol.

This is something I hate. Depending on where you order it from you'll get a different bonus.

I want the Gamestop version but I want to preorder from Amazon for the $10 credit. All this preorder DLC is a load of bullshit and it comes with pretty much every single game now days. I don't care. This game is going to be amazing and the extremely minor preorder items isn't going to change how much is actually included in game.

    GameStop
GameStop pre-order customers receive TDU2: Casino Online – a complete standalone bonus game! With the TDU2: Casino Online you can play games of chance including Poker, Roulette, and Slots, unlock two bonus cars in-game. Meet up with your friends, customize your avatar, and get access to the VIP area - reserved for only the top players.

    Amazon
Amazon.com shoppers will receive the exclusive iconic Aston Martin V12 Vantage Carbon Black special edition, exclusive avatar apparel and an additional bonus of Amazon Video Games Credit. The carbon edition features a bespoke Carbon Black color scheme, and distinctive carbon fibre details, black mesh components, and high polish black 10 spoke diamond turned alloy wheels. A bright finished grill and front parking sensors complete the exterior detailing of this hand crafted masterpiece.

    Walmart
Pre-orders at Walmart come with the super exclusive Inuit Audi Q7 V12 TDI Quattro, avatar apparel, and a Walmart.com gift card. This Audi Q7 has the breathtaking power of a six-liter twelve-cylinder V12 TDI engine with 500 hp. Already one of the most rare super-SUV models, this Audi Q7 comes in Inuit, a special white that creates a pearl effect reminiscent of the glistening luminance of the polar region. Use your Audi Q7 to play in our all new off road tracks.

    Best Buy
Best Buy consumers will be rewarded with the Aston Martin DBS Carbon Black special edition – Aston Martin's ultimate sports car. Featuring bespoke Carbon Black metallic paint complimented with gloss black 10 spoke diamond turned alloy wheels and the iconic Aston Martin side strake fashioned from carbon fibre. Best Buy Reward Zone members also receive reward zone points with their TDU2 pre-order.

    Atari.com
Atari fans that pre-order on the Atari website will receive an exclusive and unique yellow Nissan 370Z (known as the Fairlady Z in Japan). Inspired by the European GT4 race car, the Nissan 370Z includes 19-inch RAYS forged alloy wheels, black leather and suede interior upholstery and of course the Ultimate Yellow body.

I wish they'd quit offering different bonuses for games at different stores too. They're so pointless, unless the point of them is to frustrate potential buyers! You're lucky if you even get the preorder bonuses at all, and when the bonus is nothing more than a code to unlock something, eventually everyone will have all the bonuses anyway! Supposedly developers hate such promotions, but all the stupid retailers love them, so the devs keep letting themselves get bullied into fucking up new releases with their useless store exclusive crap!

After the long delay Test Drive Unlimited 2 has 24 more days to release. Retails at $49.99 so for those of you who haven't preordered it pick it up.

According to Amazon, I've had it preordered since August 2010 though I'm thinking of changing my preorder to Gamestop so I can get access to the TDU2 Casino.

I'm getting the PS3 version. Anyone who gets the PS3 version can add me. Just let me know where you're from or I won't add you. I've had people randomly add me without even speaking to them, some of which I message "who are you?" no reply so I don't add them and just delete them.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 came in this Monday and I've put quite a bit of time into it since then, thought I'd give my opinion on it.

If you've played the original Test Drive Unlimited there are a few changes. The new driving mechanics are a quite a bit more realistic than before though still simcade. Other non multiplayer changes are that there are now offroad vehicles, miles of offroad, rain, 24 hour in game time that is two hours in real time, certain items in the home can be changed, certain cars can have different rims and interiors, non races challenges, finding wrecks to acquire new cars.

There are a few things that on Test Drive Unlimited 2 that they've done worse than the original. One of which is that the world map you can't see any realty, avatar/clothing shops, dealerships, or non tournament races/non race challenges, etc. This means that in order to purchase the car you need for a race or an additional home then you' need to fill out the map and find those locations. However, they did add a feature that any location that you have been to, not just a dealership/realty agent like the first game, but anywhere even the middle of nowhere, you can teleport to.

Another thing about the original is that with Test Drive Unlimited 2 there isn't as many predesigned races. Now that may be because I've been just progressing through the storyline specific tournaments and just haven't noticed any others. However I just haven't seen anything. In the original Test Drive you not only had regular races, speed traps, etc, lying around, but you also had predesigned clubs to race against which there are a specific amount of people in each club, and each race in that club was different.

As for my favorite races, it has to be the new offroad events. I enjoy racing on asphalt events, but with the off road racing it's less based on breaking and slowing down the action, but more on when you let off the acceleration and when to press back on it while you're making a turn to push the back end around.

The graphics on the game are a major step up, even from the 360/PC version of the original. Very good draw distance, the roads and areas look great, and with the locations you don't just see a few pieces of brush in the area, etc, but there are tons of different areas. From offroad you have scattered trees and bushes, and then one area in Ibiza has a very thick forest with little brush but you see far out through the trees, etc. Just looks really good.

Now what Test Drive Unlimited 2 does offer and I think the 360/PC version of the original also offered this, is that you can create your own custom tracks. Each track you can invite people to race against or you can set it as a solo time trial. You can put as many conditions as you want under these tracks like what rank of car, weather condition, whether or not it's laps, checkpoint race, speed trap race, types of car rank required, etc. I think you can create up to 32 different races on your game file, however you can only have three of yours posted on the TDU2 server at one time.

You can take pictures of different locations, replay the last race you've completed(as soon as you've completed it,) find certain locations as an in game quest, create car clubs, etc.

So what I think is that Test Drive Unlimited 2 is created as a more multiplayer experience than the original game was, but as far as a single player experience goes, it's not nearly as robust as the original, unless of course you don't mind creating your own tracks and racing on them, because in that sense you have unlimited potential for the game.

So really the question or not is if you should get the game. I loved the original and I preordered it on May 01, 2010 on Amazon and I think that it was worth the wait. I really like the game, and even though it has a few things I don't like over the original, over all it's a better game, because not only do you have the entire island of Oahu, you also have the entire island of Ibiza, all with offroad and on road races.

The very last thing, and not really based on Test Drive Unlimited 2. While I own the first TDU on the PS2, TDU2 is the first game I've owned that's widescreen. Cockpit view on TDU2 with an HDTV is amazing. If only I owned a steering wheel and made some sort of makeshift cockpit, it'd probably feel like really racing. On asphalt races or driving around I almost play entirely in the cockpit view, already getting the trophy cockpit addict(drive 311 miles using the cockpit view,) though with offroad races, I will sometimes use the cockpit view, but mostly I will use the behind the car view as there are a lot of bumps, jumps, etc, and it's a bit difficult when you make a jump or you go around the corner and you need to adjust your turn at the last second, etc.

If you pick it up for the PS3 add me.

So you just played the PS2 version of the first? How was that, anyways? I own the 360 version and have played it for several hours (I need to go back and put some serious time into it one of these days), but I always wondered how the PS2 version turned out.

All discussion I've seen of thes sequel has been mixed to negative over such things as graphical improvements (There isn't much here for anyone that played the HD versions of the first), bugs (Of which there seems to be many), frequent server issues across all three versions, etc.

It doesn't appear to have been much of a jump forward from the HD versions of the first. And in the state it shipped, not worth buying just yet. I suspect after a few patches, it will become worthwhile to anyone that loved the first after they've addressed issues locally and made adjustments on their end to their servers.

But it's largely just more of the same (With a new island with many similarities to Hawaii, with Hawaii itself unlocking after a few hours of play where the first game took place).

I heard there were bugs/glitches in the game. Did they patch them up?
