    Default 2600 RF questions

Just wondering - can a 2600 use an RF adaptor from an NES or Genesis (etc.), or does it have to have the switchbox?

Also, since I really am not crazy about RF (although I'll use it if I have to), does anyone know where I might be able to get an A/V modded 2600?

You can use an "F" adapter instead. Still RF, but much better than a switchbox.

Hmmm. I've never heard of an "F" adaptor. Where can I find one?

Radio Shack has them though you might be able to find them cheaper at somewhere like Walmart. Either way, it's not more than a few bucks at he most.

Just look for something that looks like an RCA cable can plug into one end and the other end can screw into the TV's cable connecor.

It's not quite as good an composite since the audio is still on the same line but it will be a MUCH cleaner signal than a switchbox.

Since nobody answered the other question, no you can't use an automatic RF switch from a NES or Genesis, as the RF signal from the 2600 isn't strong enough, and needs to be on a manual switchbox or F adapter.

Thanks for the answers, both of you. I did end up getting an F adapter, and the picture quality is greatly improved. Beats the hell out of the switchbox, that's for sure.

I am still interested in getting an A/V modded 2600, if anyone knows where I might find one. Also, if anyone has a "parts" 2600 Jr. they wouldn't mind parting with, I need a replacement casing for mine, which is pretty badly damaged. It took a hell of a shock that shattered some of the casing and broke most of the support posts on the inside. It still works fine, I'm just using tape to keep it together at the moment.
