Default Genesis Model 1 Ver. 4 - Can Sound Be Fixed on This Model?

As most of you know there are 4 versions of the model one genesis. 2 labeled with "high definiion graphics" and two without. Of the 4, the last one made has the worst sound.

I was unfortunate enough to buy this model without knowing. Is there some way to restore the sound quality with some sort of modd? If there is, does anyone here do that?

Well, there is the Crystal Clear Audio Mod, but not sure if that works on the Model 1. Might want to do a search for that, may be Model 2 specific.

But really, for the price of everything to mod it, or to ship it out to someone to mod, just pick up another Genesis. Unless you are just wanting to tinker around for fun then I would understand.

Well the thing is I already have around $100.00 dumped into my sega genesis. It's got a region switch, signal amplifier to get it to work on picky tvs. AV & s-video jacks...

At this point modding it further seems like the way to go. I've never heard of this crystal clear audio mod before. Does anyone here have any info?

It's some audio amp for the genesis 2 that bypasses the existing, crappy audio amp.

After some quick googling it seems it should work in theory on a ( VA7? ) #4 genesis model 1 since the insides are almost the same as the model 2 genesis. Something I read is bothering me about it though. I've heard doing this bypass won't let you play SEGA CD, or god forbid, 32X games with audio.

Any truth to this? If so I might just want to find a HD graphics gen 7 mod that from scratch.

If anyone can do this audio mod or has any info on it let me know. We might be able to work something out.

I personally have not done the mod myself as my HD Genny sounds fantastic. But I have thought about doing it on my X'Eye/Wondermega 2 - if it's possible. It honestly does not sound near as good as the HD Genny. Which is surprising because it doubles as a Karaoke machine supposedly. And from what I hear, the X'Eye/Wondermega 2's are built from the Model 2 chipset.

Can you provide a link to the Crystal Clear Audio Mod? I have yet to really look deeply into it, I have only heard of it and seen people with the mod.

TmEE on the Sega-16 forums can do this for you, as he's the one who created the CCAM. I sent him a VA7 so that he could experiment on it, and it sounds great now with the CCAM.

Any truth to the VA7 not outputting sound on sega cd & 32X after the mod?

Mine works fine with the Sega CD. I also have a VA3 Genesis 2 with the CCAM and it also works great with the Sega CD. Not sure about the 32X but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
