Default Monday Morning MAME Club - Mappy

Hey everybody, going to go ahead and post a new game today...but also leave Sly Spy up since we started it late last week.

This week's game is one of my favorite all-time arcade games, Mappy.

Yes, the story of a policemouse, in a house of cat burglars, trying to collect the stolen goods by running...jumping on trampolines...and attacking cats with doors. I miss good, old fashioned storytelling in videogames.

ROM will be up later at drop.io/dpmameclub

I've never played this before. My first life I kind of went "wha?" (man, when was the last time I saw a game without a fire button?) but then I saw what was going on. Did pretty well going forward, nearly hit the highscore (starting from a fresh game). The limit on the number of bounces adds some strategy to it (more so in the bonus stage of course).

I love this game! I can get a decent score on a good game. I can't remember if the game explains this but if you grab the items in order, the points multiply and you can get some major points. In order I mean by grabbing both Mona LIsa's, then both stereo's, then both computer's etc. But this makes the game a little tougher then just grabbing what ever is in your path. And of course by trapping all the cats with the trap doors gets you big points as well. The bonus stage on this is pretty tough, you have absolutely no room for errors, the worse feeling is when the time runs out and the final fat cat ballon is right below your ass.

This is a great game. I spent a ton of time in arcades in the 80's and never saw this game. I first played it when I got the Namco collection for my PS1. Since I finally built my MAME cabinet this has been one of the top 20 games that I play.

This game rocks.. I had a pretty good game tonight, (even got all 4 cats & fat cat for 1600x2 points..)

My high score is 52630, and I made it to Round 6.

Funny, this is one of those games that I've never really been able to "get into". I've played it numerous times, hoping it would grab me, and that I'd see what everyone else does....perhaps this is the time, eh

Always had fun with this one and Hopping Mappy, the later games I didn't care as much for as these original two. The Famicom version seems easier as my old score is higher on it, plus I get to level 9 on it.

My best score was level 6 - 45,630 before I ran out of lives, trying to get every item in pairs in the correct order (radio, TV, computer, Mona Lisa painting, safe makes things much harder if you want a higher score.
