I played Deadly Alliance (thanks for the title prompt there Shawn), I think that was the one at least. I thought it was pretty neat. Style switching, weapons and the stage fatalities of course stood out for my memory. The best part IMO was where Liu Kang gets killed and his soul eaten in the opening cinematic. Seeing that alone made my day. I hate that little bicycle kick spamming loud mouth shrieking asshole. Almost as much as I hate Superman, the boring altruistic do-goody bastard.
Just think about it... Shouldn't the bad guys be as big of douches as possible? Hot Topic day manager would make a great antagonist... Day manager Sephiroth anyone? You can't get much more douche than FF7, but it's an admirable aspiration.

NEW GAME TRAILER:
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/10/wb...might-in-2011/
Looks good, like the older titles. Kung Lao's fatality looks sweet, btw.
Personally, I don't care for the new look. I want to go back to the great first Mortal Kombat movie. Now that's how a video game movie should be made right there.
This...looks too gruesome.
I just watched that on another site and it indeed looked good, just like the movie trailer. It also looks like they are adding tag matches or atleast assist partners. BTW, Kung Lao's new fatality looks....painful.
Cheesy or not, it has always been one of the best video game movies ever made. It basically took the initial concept of the original game(a martial arts tournament to determine the best warrior) and made it into a fairly believable movie with very cool martial arts fighting scenes. At the time theres no way they could have made that movie any better. Perhaps thats why they are now going for a more realistic approach.
And I really don't blame WB. In the last five years we have gotten three extremely successful franchise reboots(Batman Begins, Casino Royale--Bond and Star Trek). It looks like Mortal Kombat is attempting to be the fourth successful one and so far they are definitely on the right track.

As for the trailer itself...well, I had a geekgasm.
Blowing on cartridges since 1987
I get a heavy SFIV-type vibe out of the trailer.
Not gonna lie dudes, as a die hard MK fan I'm not impressed. The only redeeming factor seems to be that Scorpion has somewhat of a lead role, but it skews the original story so out of shape it's ridiculous. Baraka is a joke, his blades look terrible! Lol @ Johnny Cage getting owned AGAIN, and Reptile being a full grown birth defect WTF?!
It's getting out of hand; everyone go play some MKII to remember what integrity feels/plays/looks like.
The original Mortal Kombat storyline from MK/MKII. Scorpion and Sub-Zero should still be trying to kill each other, but it seems as if they are leaving Outworld out of it for the most part. They could be saving it for the movie, though. Again, this is all speculation/opinion based on what we were given.
Well, either way it turns out. It does just go to show folks that the MK series is far from dead in "everyones eyes". They still have a fan base, therefore money to be made.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough; I assumed everyone had read the official Mortal Kombat komic book that came out in 1993; it was written by John Tobias. He was responsible for the majority of the story/character development, and we learn a lot in that coming that the game doesn't really touch base on. The characters stories are more in depth, and it leads right up to the events that caused the second tournament.
Also, I am very aware that a lot of ideas for characters have been borrowed from movies/novels/comics, etc, and wasn't using the term "original" in context to the characters and stories themselves. Rather, when I said original, I was speaking in terms of it being the first MK storyline that was established. This "straight to DVD" schlock is almost blasphemy to the classic storyline. Yes, we all know you can only tell the story so many times, but then why bother making a movie if you have to chop up the story?
Look at the countless amounts of re-makes being made these days! It kind of pisses me off that out of all things, they try to re-arrange the Mortal Kombat storyline out of boredom.

Yeah it's pretty terrible lol. I remember buying it out of the bin at Blockbuster video back in 1995. It's definitely a collectors item to have, but it's nothing special. The limited edition MK4 comic book that came with the PC version is another neat item. The original MK comic will always be my favorite, though.
It's already been established that the promo trailer is only a piece of hype. And for that, it's done quite well.
Gotta side with Jorpho here on the story angle too. There's never been a solid MK story, just a lot of vague generalities that made sense at the time of whatever game was released. If you're looking for well developed backgrounds, plot, character development in the MK universe, you're looking in the wrong place. The one thing you can count on in those "stories" for lack of a better term, is that they'll never be consistent. The trailer with MJW and JR is just another extension of that.
The MK series has always been about over the top fun. For story, check your local library.
