    Default Online Gaming Question

I'm wanting to cut costs on my internet service and my download speed is 12MBps, I'm thinking of dropping down to 3MBps to save 20 bucks a month. Will this effect online gaming or even movie streaming from netflix?

    Thanks

It would depend on the online games you're playing. It could affect PC gaming. If its on XBL or PSN, not really, as those services (and sometimes the games themselves if smartly programmed) regulate the up/down on a games. We've got so so DSL and our Netflix streaming is fine. We get the occasional slowed connection downgrade but nothing that cripples anything.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

Thanks, I think I'll give it a shot. I have a Wii and PS3, the only online gaming I do is for Mario Kart Wii and Sonic All Stars Racing on the PS3, and my daughter does Little Big Planet online occasionally. I guess if it doesn't work I can always go back. Again thanks for the help

I think our internet is 5 and it runs xbl fine, We used to have dsl that was below 1 and even that was sufficient for original xbl.

Bandwith is the least of concern when it comes to online gaming. Xbox Live is optimized for 256kbps for example, although streaming videos might need a little more.

What could affect your experience with online play is latency but there really isn't a way about it short of switching ISPs.

It'll be fine for online gaming but, since an advertised 3Mbps is rarely ever actually 3Mbps, you might notice lower quality in your Netflix.
