A little puff of smoke out the back is never a good thing! My advice on that one is to take a look at what blew up and go from there.

As far as the other one with the video problem. Try using different A/V cables and see what happens. Try it on a different TV as well. If all else fails, maybe you can swap some of the components from that one over to the one that blew up.

    Keep us updated.

Long shot, but if you can get a good, hi-res pic of the blown mainboard, maybe somebody here might be able to spot the problem.

I'm thinking a blown capacitor might be visible. Capacitors are the usually vertical cylinders. The tops are usually(always?) silver in color and are flat if all is right, with seams on the top.

When a capacitor fails the top bulges up, so the top is no longer flat, and often something oozes out of the top.

I don't know whether or not it is possible for a capacitor to emit smoke, to be honest.

I've seen caps blow up in various ways, and sometimes they do emit smoke.

First thing to check on a console that doesn't power up at all is the fuse, if you can find it. Sometimes they look just like a resistor. You might have to trace the connection from the AC Adapter input to find the fuse. Basically you'll want to test for continuity on the fuse. If no continuity, it's bad. Not saying that's what it is, but that's a good start.

As far as the smoking Saturn goes, did you take it apart and look for something burned up or did you just look on the outside. Surely if something was smoking, there should be evidence of some damage somewhere. If you can, like mentioned - take it apart and if you can't find it - take some super high resolution photos of everything and see if we can analyze it for you.

ive had it open no signs of burning, fuse is fine i think its the power supply bord. ive had it switched on (still dosent power up) but it makes a funny click/tapping noise.
ive had a little experiance with restoreing classic consoles before, ive fixed 2 dreamcasts, 3 game gears, ps3 and a psOne
thanks for all the help so far guys
