Super LTTP: Half Life 2

Half-Life and Deus Ex use two very different methods of story telling, so I see where you're coming from. I, too, prefer Deus Ex, but I enjoyed Half-Life for what it was. Deus Ex actually had you making choices, and your character has a speaking role. Half-Life lacks these elements, the only choice being whether you want to see the ending or get a game over.

I find it interesting that the Half-Life style of storytelling is more popular. It doesn't require any thought on your part, leaving you feeling like an observer rather than an actor. There really hasn't been anything else like Deus Ex, but you see Half-Life's influence in a ton of shooters today.

reviving this one too to share my opinion on the matter at hand

I never played half of the half life 1 (figure that out) and lost the cd key to my discs (sad face)

But i got the general idea of the story and what happens in the game just so i could get half life 2

Once i started the game.. i literally could not stop playing it. i played it on the pc
i woke up... half life 2...
kept playing half life 2.
Ate then half life 2
take a shit then half life 2
goto bed late as hell
get up rinse and repeat

I love a game with a good story
and for me the story of this game is still the best imo
its so far the only game where it actually made me care about a charecter

when alex dies (which we know she comes back in EP1 thanks to a little help in time and space)
i actually felt kinda sadden by all this. like something was taken away from me.

The story pulled me in. It made me feel like i was gordon freeman and this was my hell i was going through
the environment of the game sucked me in. It was extremely well designed and alot of thought put into it to make it less generic and more like a actual place you could come across given the circumstances of this future.
The music went extremely well with the game
the sound fx's were awesome
the guns were awesome
the character development felt like a Award winning movie

This is one of my favorite games period.

The game dumps you in a world where you don't know where you are whats going on. How are you going to solve this problem. and introduces you to people who come to be like friends of yours through out the game.

and the best part i like is when your walking along and you spot g man (best sighting for me was when your on the air foil boat and you see a house from a distance if you zoom in on it you'll see g man walk into the house... gives ya a kinda eerie feeling like where the hell does he come from).

I agree. Never saw the big deal about HL1 or 2. Just another FPS imo.

I love HL2. I've got HL1 on PS2 and it really has not held up well at all. Which kinda sucks as I never finished it (on pc) when it was new and not so terrible looking.
