Default Backup Battery Replacement & Collectability

    Hey guys,

Just wondering if you had any opinions on the matter of replacing batteries in game carts. When I do it, I solder a battery clip to the board so that in the future the battery can be replaced by hand.

Do you feel about these kinds of maintenance modifications affect the collectability of cartridges? Would you have a preference over a repaired cart, or one with a dead original battery?

    Thanks!

There may come a day when this will affect collectability, but I don't see that coming anytime soon.

When I have a cart with a dead battery I left it as that and leave the choice to the buyer.

As long as it is done nice and secure, I would not mind in the least. I would probably prefer it on most carts. OP, do you have pictures on how you secure it to the board?

There is actually a member on Nintendoage who does a similar service. I personally believe that that is a fantastic idea. I sent him an SFC game that came off of ebay with the battery DOA and he worked his magic on it. I have no soldering skills whatsoever, so it's comforting to know that if need be in the future, I can just open my cart and easily replace the battery by hand in a matter of seconds.

Even though it may be arguably banal, I could see some collectors getting slightly upset over the fact that another person may have opened up a cart and tampered around on the board. Whether that actually affects the value of a game remains to be seen....

I solder them directly to the board so they're nice and secure. I got the idea from here; http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/mes...threadid=31878

Good pics of what the final product looks like. Also his camera is better than mine and saves me from digging around and opening a cart
