Default How do you know if there is a break in the cord and where it is located?

I have an SNES Controller where nothing works. I tried cleaning it out with q-tips and rubbing alcohol and still nothing. I am now assuming that there's a break in the cord. I don't know how to tell where the break is in the cord; as I do not want to strip the whole cord for nothing. How can I tell if there is a break in the cord and where it is located before I have to strip the cord's insulation? I really want to get this SNES Controller working again! Thank you and have a nice day.

You'll have to use your ohm-meter. What you need to do is test for continuity on each wire. Put the one of the probes at the connector side, and start touching the contact points inside the contoller on the PCB. Make sure that each wire ohms out to 0. If it doesn't then that's the wire with the problem. How to find out which part of the wire, not sure. But if you do determine that there is a bad wire in the cord, just swap the cord out from a parts controller.

Use these instructions here, but instead of touching the probe on each end of the resistor or fuse, or whatever it's telling you to do, touch the probes on each end of the wires.
