    Default Dreamcast Power Issue

    Hey all,
Picked up a Dreamcast console the other day. I knew it was broken when buying it. Figured I could try a fix on it. Here is the issue...

When powering on the system the LED lights up then immediately shuts off. Nothing happens. When I try again, nothing, but if I wait a few minutes it does it again.

Opened her up and tinkered around. Strange issue. I have no idea what any of these parts are called, but whenever I pull up the top board with the white clip on it that connects to the pins underneath (believe its voltage and ground) the power connects and the system runs fine. But the moment I push this piece down and set it in right. Everything shuts off and starts giving me the issue as stated before.

Resting on top of pins, power

Pushed down into place, no power

This white piece is a tad bit loose, not sure if it has to be.

Figured I would drop this by here and see what you all think.
Also I originally thought the fuse was blown but we tested it with a volt meter and it seems fine.

Sounds like the power connector (white thingy) is causing a short when it connects to the controller board. If it's real loose I would opt to buy a new power invertor board, because shorts can lead to fire.

That might be the case. If you want to try a new power board, PM me. I *might* have a working one somewhere that I can ship to you.

sounds to me like a loose solder joint. check the connections. could be caused by excessive heat causing the solder to become brittle. If you wanna ship me the board i could take a crack at fixing it for you, as long as you cover the shipping back and forth.

Tried a new part like the one in picture. (Thanks Jaruff. It was worth a shot). No change unfortunately. Figured it might be something on the main board that was loose.
Ended up taking it all apart, then cleaning some corrosion near those pins underneath. I Put it back together without the disk drive attached and it powered on no problem. Once I attached it, got the same issue as before.

    hmm

i can get loose dreamcasts 5 bucks each if you want one just pay the price and shipping and ill send it to you. The only faulty one I ever got had a blown transistor on the controller port or the fan was unplugged so it wouldn't boot.

The issue I was having is the disk drive. Somethings probibly fried with it and it's causing my console to not power on.

Now I know what to look for to get this system up and running.
