Default What system has the all time largest library of games?

I'm assuming that the original Playstation has the largest library of games, considering that it came out quite some time ago, and that it still has new games coming out for it, even today. Does anybody know the total number of games that system has?

What about the NES? I would think that the NES would also have a pretty considerable library of games.

Is there anybody out there that has, or is trying to have a complete collection of every single game released for either of these systems? If so, wow, that must be a very daunting and expensive task!

I can't distinguish between the colors either, that's why it's arranged alphabetically with the alphabetical list across the top. It's not hard to read if you follow along wtih the legend.

If you consider ALL four types of the Game Boy games as the same, and not broken down as they are here, then THAT has the largest library at well over a thousand.

Although I thought the Atari 2600 and NES libraries were bigger?

AHA!!! lol I was reading that going from top left going down (i.e.32x, Atari 7800, Dreamcast) Now I see it's arranged to be read from left to right Thanks

On that note, it might be easier to read going that way (going down via column) rather than from left to right.. I dunno. I guess it's good either way. Just a thought.

if you count all the GB,GBC, GBA games as the same then you could say the PS2 has the largest with 1200+ PSX and 450+ PS2 games.

can you believe there are already nearly 500 PS2 games out there?

    My guesses are (in order):

    PC
    Commodore
    PS1
    Gameboy

Since I don't personally count the PC or Commodore, I would say the PS1 takes it.

I personally would find that if the names were put directly underneath their respective bar, even if the name was vertical, it would probably be the easiest to read. That may not be a space saver, but it might be less confusing. At least, that is just my 2 cents about it anyway.

I count 1243 games for the PS1 as of now, but as noted, there are still games coming out for it every month. No other home console is anywhere near this number (for comparison, the DC and 64 both had 200-something games and the NES 7xx).

If you count only the individual games themselves and not label variations and pirates, the atari 2600 only has about 700 too. Even with the 7800's extra, what, 59? it isn't enough to usurp the PSX. So I say that the psx has the most, period.

Not if you do the same and include non-US PlayStation games. In fact, I think that would officially blow any other console out of the water (unless you include disk-based systems).

C64... 10k+ titles at least... though PC would dwarf that entirely and all the rest put together...

If you're doing worldwide, wouldn't the SMS put up decent shot in the running? (Beyond my knowledge, but I know brazil STILL loves it)

Not that this helps, but the Japanese Saturn has over 600 releases.

I can't see counting all the GB's together. They are different systems, unlike the Genesis which has the three versions but they still go in one category. Did that make sense? I need some sleep!

Difference is the US factor... Spectrum was really just Europe games for the most part whereas C64 has all the US software too. C64 > Spectrum here for games, but it isn't a massive amount, probably a few thousand...
