odyssey2 voice not working

Essentially, my voice isn't speaking. The speaker is working, as it makes an audible sound when I've got it turned up all the way, but no speech is coming out of the games. I've had some problems with this in the past, but I had always been able to get it going again after some cleaning. This time I've been hammering it with rubbing alcohol and running the carts in and out and still nothing. Anyone know what else it could possibly be? Any other advice for cleaning the cartridge port on that thing? My old NES era cleaning wands just don't fit inside that deeply.

In case anyone else has a similar problem, in my case it was the connector coming loose between the volume knob and the main board. So check that if you have an issue yourself.
