Default WWF No Mercy save deletion glitch

I'm sure many of you from back in the day are aware of the problem. Where for little apparent reason, all saved progress on-cart would just vanish.

Has the actual technical cause ever been identified? What about an proven near-100% way to tell apart glitched carts from unaffected? Having owned the game approaching 10 years, it's long overdue I get around to replacing my cart with a better version (assuming one even exists).

I remember that bug back in the day. If I remember correctly there were two versions of the game v1.0 and v1.1. Both still have alot of minor bugs but the CAW bug is fixed in v1.1 . I actually do wonder how to tell the difference between the two versions because I can't find anything in the GameShark's memory editor.

It's not hard to find loose carts at pawn shops or whatnot. I just don't want to waste money if it'll also lose data.

Ahh No Mercy, great game, but notoriously bad about saves. I've never heard of any solution to it.

All I could do was backup my CAWs onto a memory card.

I was just about to say you could back up your characters to a memory card, too bad some of the few characters, Superstars and CAW's couldn't cross between Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy.

Well I found the dates. From November 17,2000 to March 17,2001 those were the 1.00 carts. 1.01 was released after that. Oh and this is ironic,I went to the internet archive to find the page that tells you how to fix the glitch : http://web.archive.org/web/200106091...051.2047569444 yea, it's buggy too.
