Default Anyone's opinions on The Karate Kid for NES?

I'm just wondering what all of you think of The Karate Kid for NES. In my opinion, it's a great game. Although I almost beat it once, I died. This game would keep me playing and entertained for a few hours. Another great game by LJN, my favorite video game company for NES.

Well, to be fair, not all LJN games sucked. Just 99.9% of them.

In a weird sort of way, I did enjoy Terminator 2 for GB and Crash Test Dummies for NES.

I still feel THQ was by far the worst game creator in the 80's.

Anyway, never played Karate Kid. Unfortunately, after viewing the AVGN's vid, I already know to expect one crapass game. Maybe I will get it for a buck or so.

I thought The Karate Kid was O.K. I could beat it constantly back in 1988. Once you figured out the patterns, the enemies were cannon fodder. I would fly through the game; I probably could have done a speed run of it if they existed back in 1988.

He's posted a few threads in OT too.

On topic... I hated this game when I was younger. I have only vague memories of it, but they feel bad when I try to bring them back so I think I'll let them stay dead.

Didn't the game loop through the first two movies over and over or something?

Of note I was a huge fan of the first two films... and I still didn't like it.

I liked it when I was a kid, it's okay. Unlike other LJN games, the boards followed the movie. It was very difficult to play though, the control was terrible.

In my opinion, I thought the controls were very nice and easily managable.

I will have to agree that majority of their games sucked, but Who Framed Roger Rabbit? wasn't that bad (aside the fact that beating Doom is almost impossible without cheating) and Friday the 13th has a special place in my childhood memories. Aside from that, Nightmare on Elm Street and Alien 3 were pretty solid games, but that's about it I think.

I must be the only person in the world that loved Terminator 2 on the NES.

I even beat the damn game on a real system over ten years ago.

NBA All Star Challenge on the SNES was pretty good at the time. Other than that, LJN = garbage.

I liked karate kid. I never thought it was a very hard game, and it was fun enough when I was like 10. It seems the game didnt get alot of flack til AVGN hated on it.

Friday the 13th and Karate Kid will have a special place in my childhood gaming memories.

Speaking of Karate Kid, I just ran across this catalog page(#9). That's not the game I remember. I could believe that it's a prototype image but the characters don't even look like NES sprites, or Karate Kid characters for that matter. Going by the picture I'd be inclined to believe that it was a game called Disco Fighters...In Japan

I remember those ads. Those screens for Jaws and Karate Kid reminded me of DOS games. Speaking of Japan, I heard that some of the early LJN NES games were programmed in Japan, by Atlus (Karate Kid was one of them).

    That's the arcade version.

Here's an LJN ad with more of those mockup screenshots. Looks like they were made in Deluxe Paint or something.

Eight LJN games were developed in Japan, most (if not all) originally contracted to Atlus, with some of those then being subcontracted to other companies (like Westone [Jaws]).

I actually like The Karate Kid. I beat it in less than an hour when I rented it as a kid. Easy, but fun game.

Ljn actually had some cool NES games imo. Karate kid isn't too bad, and I actually think Jaws isn't a bad effort for the time. It has solid music and visuals, and actually had an ending, which was rare for early Nes games. Other LJN games I enjoyed were The Punisher (plays like Dynamite Duke! It's pretty cool!), T&C Surf Designs, and even Friday the 13th. Ft13th was too ambitious for the Nes to pull off smoothly, but it's definitely a cool gameplay concept. And it's actually pretty creepy (in a good way.) I must give credit where credit is due.
