Default Problem with Power Base Converter

I have two Power Base Converters that seem not to function properly. All contacts have been carefully cleaned (very thoroughly too), as well as the Genesis console and SMS games.

For some reason, when I put a game (say Double Dragon), I get a plethora of problems, ranging from:

    -Glitchy graphics
    -Freeze ups
    -Distorted colors
    -Game not loading at all

Some games don't even load! I know it's not the games themselves because I play them on other SMS units and they work fine. I know the Genesis works because all Genesis games work fine.

Yet I doubt BOTH Power Base Converters are defective, if they do the same exact thing, no matter what Genesis or game I use.

    Any ideas?

I read something about capacitors, but I can't find any info on it.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Anyone have an idea? Why does it do this? Is this common?

There isn't very much on the inside of the power base converter. The Genesis was designed to be backwards compatible and the PBC is more or less an adapter that allows SMS carts to be plugged in.

Mine hums quite a bit when playing the only SMS game I have (Shinobi). I've heard that replacing the capacitors helps since they're apparently prone to failure. Luckily, as FABombjoy says, there aren't many capacitors in there so it shouldn't be too hard to fix once I get around to it in my case.
