Default Atari 2800 Player 2 input malfunction

Hi, I just got a 2600 at a garage sale with some games. Everything works great except that the player two port is not registering property. I've tried several different controllers (including ones that work in the player one slot) however it doesn't register the directional motions or any two player input at all. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this?

    thanks!

That's just the Japanese 2600 right? I'd start by opening up the system and checking the ground connection of player 2's port. If that one one goes out, all the controls will stop working.

Actually, before I open it up, I'd check to make sure nothing was on the connector pins, maybe try to clean them, then open it up if it still doesn't work.

Sometimes the soldering breaks from people plugging and unplugging throughout the years. So check the soldering on the inside.
