Default Super Meat Boy (XBL, Wii, PC)

Anyone playing this? Had forgot it was coming out till I saw a thread on another forum about it! On sale till the end of Oct. for 800 points on XBL, and exclusive free DLC coming for the XBox later on too.

Hell of a hard game, innovative, fast pacing on the levels....I dig it

Thoughts? Anyone else grab it? Totally worth the 800 points IMO!

Amazing game. First time in a long time that I actually had to pull myself away from the television due to gaming. Recently checked out their blog too.. and there was a picture of a smb snes games, the thought alone makes my mouth water. Can't wait for the exclusive 360 DLC.

This game is slowly creeping up on my list of "best games of all time." I normally don't give a title like that to anything, but the more I play it I realize just how brilliantly designed the game is. This game is worth 800 pts, will be worth 1200 when it goes up next week, and if it were 1600 it would still be worth it.

Sadly, most people probably can't stomach the difficulty.

I played the demo on the 360 and was a bit disappointed given all the great things I had heard about the game. I didn't particularly like it. I kept trying to play it like N+, but that didn't work very well because it plays differently. I usually like these kinds of games, so I was surprised I didn't feel the need to buy it right away. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Yeah, it's definitely hard as hell but sooooo fun!

And yeah, it's coming to PC on Steam next month. Same with Wiiware...next month I believe.

I've seen the reviews and it has gotten my interest, but isn't just another N+ clone? I got N+ on XBL and DS already... it's one of those games that is pretty addictive but then you get to one of those hard as F*** levels and you just put it on the shelf.

I might check it out sometime this week though, I'm inbetween games and this sounds like it'd be entertaining.

    It plays nothing like N+.

What makes it so different then? It looks like you move around a level, dodging objects and trying to get to a switch or an exit. That's exactly what N+ is...

The general premise is the same, so they are definitely in the same "family" of 2d platformers. And yeah, a lot of mechanics are similar (wall jumping, etc.) There are some superficial things (SMB has a map/overworld set up, N+ has separate levels and chapters where you play stages continuously on a clock), most of all the music in SMB is on a totally different level from N+.

What makes them very different comes down purely to physics. The physics in both games are completely different and thus the challenge is very different. Its hard to explain just how its different (you really do have to play it), but in a nutshell SMB is a much much faster game and most levels come down to pure reflexes and timing. Sometimes, it doesn't look like a jump is possible till you actually try it. N+ takes a bit more time, finesse and memorization of what to do (some levels are completely ambiguous as to how to navigate them). Also N+ has multiplayer which is always where, at least I think, the game shines.

Sadly, the demo of SMB doesn't give you the scope of the game... similarly to N+ in which the demo for that game barely gave you a sample of what to expect.

    Best use of 800pts today.

    Me: "Just one more level."

Fifteen minutes later. "Ooh, I will beat this warpzone then I will quit"

20 minutes later "I will beat World 1 then quit."

5 minutes later "I will A+ World 1 then go to bed."

15 minutes later "Well, I will do some dark world levels then quit for the night"

Wife: "HONEY ARE YOU COMING TO BED?"

    Heh.

I picked it up last night and played up through 2-10, got A+s on all but one level. Only got 2 bandages though.

Definitely is an addictive but frustrating game. Hope to get some more time in tonight!

Glad to see you caved in! Trust me, the game only gets more insane once you actually try to grab bandages, hunt down warps, etc.

Played through world 3 last night and got to the beginning of world 4 before calling it quits. Loving every minute so far.

Have you guys noticed the world intros that are knock-offs / parodies of retro classics. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the first 4 are:

    Street Fighter II
    Castlevania
    Adentures of Lolo
    Ninja Gaiden

Don't spoil the last two yet, I'll ask after I get there

It differs by being a completely different game.

And yeah, I love the references. I dare ask if you've figured out how to unlock the "negative" worlds... you'll be in for a real treat if you love these references.

Whomever designed this game is a hardcore sadist. Some of the levels are absulutely absurd, going from the realm of challenging but fun to ludicrously difficult and enfuriating. I just spent the last thirty minutes trying to beat level 19 of "Teh Internets" and now I want to break something.

Another nod to this game...it is amazing. I picked it up real cheap ($4) during the steam sale just to try it. What I love about this game is how hard it seems, only to go back 2 days later to the same stages and A+ them first or second try. You just keep getting better and better at the game, and then find techniques for faster times you had no idea about the first time through. Excellent level design.
