    Default Quick Megadrive Compatibility Question

I recently sold an NTSC US Virtua Racing Genesis game to a buyer in Russia who claims the game does not work. However, I tested this game before shipping it and it worked fine. I was hoping if anyone could tell me if there are any known incompatibilities with this game on PAL Megadrive consoles so I can figure out what the problem is.

I have read that this game will not work on Sega Genesis model 3s. Are there any other compatibility issues such as a region lock-out chip?

    Thanks!

Don't the Russians use PAL there? Or a version of it. I'm pretty sure they don't use NTSC. That might be the problem.

On a side note, for those of us old enough to remember what things were like during the Cold War, isn't it cool that we can casually swap video games with people in the former Soviet Union? They used to be the 'evil empire', and now you can chew the fat with them on a web forum and talk about Sega games. I never would have imagined that when I was a kid back in the early '80s.

Thank you very much both of you. I know that some NTSC Genesis games will work on PAL systems and some will not. Hopefully this is the problem.

Just a quick follow-up, and another question.

So the buyer informed me that he has a US genesis Model 2 and tested the game on this system. I test all my games with a Nomad so if anybody knows if there is any compatibility issues with a Model 2 genesis and this game please let me know.

It sounds like I will need to send the buyer a replacement cart.

    Thanks!

    Ok thanks,

I have two spare Virtua Racing games and after cleaning them well, neither of them get past the licensed by screen.

Possibly I only went to the title screen when testing this game earlier on my Nomad. Is the Nomad incompatible with VR racing?

I issued the buyer a full refund. I actually tested my two spare cartridges in a Sega Model 2 and neither worked.

I am very surprised as I have found very few Genesis carts that did not work at all over the years.

I am curious if this game dies more likely than other because of the complex hardware.
