Default Are there new Nintendo 64 games for sale?

It seems like games still come out for the Atari 2600 and mods are released for the NES. Are N64 games still being made?

There are some individuals/groups that create games for the 2600
Now it is the beginning of
    a fantastic story! Let us

    Good luck!

Nintendo 64 seems to be one of the few cartridge based systems that has no repros or new releases for it. I think the technology to make them isn't here yet. The Neo Myth is the closest thing there is to play modified or proto games. There are a large amount of Super Mario 64 mods out there, but none on a cart. Someday.

There was once this blurb on Assembler that suggested not even the HK bootleggers could make pirate N64 games profitably, so by extension it would seem unlikely that a homebrew hobbyist could manage it at a price people would be willing to pay. But that was a long time ago. Are pirate N64 games not so uncommon now?

I also have the impression that the N64 is sufficiently difficult to develop for that there hasn't been much homebrew produced for it either.

Oh, sure, there's been some homebrew - but most of that appears to be just demos. (Why is there porn? Oh, right, there's always porn.)

There are alternative pads if you detest the official Nintendo pad

I don't recommend this one, but it's different.

I do not like N64 controllers either, the top and bottom pads look fine but the middle controller has the `+` D-pad on a circular platform and after a while they start going up left instead of left, etc where as the other 2 pads have just the Cross D-pad ,i find these are more responsive

After looking them up, if there were official releases of Ataxx 64 and/or Manic Miner 64 I'd probably still have an N64 today.

    @ R34 on N64.

Since the console is just barely over a decade old and had high costs to put together even through bulk purchasing power, mass production with automated/machine assisted assembly, I'd suppose, it's going to be a while yet before you're going to see a Bangai-O repro cart produced by hand in limited quantities for sale, let alone homebrew. It only takes one to start a wedge though.

I couldn't image that making a N64 game that looks like a 2600 game would be too much harder than making a 2600 game. Making a N64 game that looks like an N64 game is another story though.

Building an N64 game from scratch is a massive undertaking, probably not worth anyone's time.

This guy was doing some demo's and attempting to make a racing game, but hasn't kept up with it. He is also working on a true N64 flash cart.

I really don't have any problem using the original game pads. I find them good to use. I have tried out other pads and I do have that bottom pad, the Super Pad. I find it very awkward and terrible to use. I think it is because of the way the backside plastic has been molded. It doesn't feel natural. I prefer the original.

Is there a lot of homebrew PSX or Saturn games? I'd imagine that the 3D modeling is the big thing keeping N64 homebrew back. I think this was the first console generation where costs to produce quality games shot thru the roof. The N64 would probably be cheapest of the three since you don't necessarily need to have FMV cutscenes, but since most of the N64 games were 3D affairs, it might be prohibitively expensive and/or time consuming to create a game for the system. If you look at the games that have come out for the Dreamcast, none of them have been full 3D affairs (that I'm aware of). I think that's the main reason we've gotten mostly nothing but shmups and puzzle games.

Sorry to continue the off topic discussion, but I have to chime in and offer a positive opinion on the Super Pad 64 (aka Super Pad 64 Plus)

I personally believe that is the best controller available for N64, and yes I own the Hori mini controller, the Hori Commander, Hudson's N64 controller, the ASCii Pad64, Shark Pad Pro, and a couple others...

The Super Pad 64 Plus is the most solidly constructed controller for N64. The metal analog stick has never been faulty on any of the 3 pads I own, nor on any of my friend's controller. The action buttons have the best tactile feel and response of any N64 controller I have used. The ergonomic design works very well for both d-pad or analog control. We first started using the Super Pad 64 Plus when Mario Kart 64 came out, and there was no going back to the cheap feeling official controller.
Now the d-pad is unquestionably the best of any N64 controller. It is well rockered and pronounced, responsive and always acurate.

Keep in mind though that some games designed around the N64 controller, such as Sin & Punishment, are not well suited for the Super Pad 64 Plus.

I appreciate that some of you guys say you don't like the controller, keep spreading the wrong impression, it will help keep the used market values down.
