Default Games with Snow, Ice or Winter Levels

One thing I really liked about early console games is that they usually had an Ice / snow level. I was thinking which games had some of the coolest effects and came up with. Crude buster for the arcade, had a very cool snow level. Donkey kong country had a blizzard on a couple scenes, the ice level on blaster master was pretty cool. What games do you guys think had some nice snow / ice effects.

The Goonies II on the NES. Crazy slippery ice level complete with falling stalactites.

It's an easy choice but Sonic 3's Ice Cap zone. Not only did it have the high-speed intro on the snowboard, but I also loved the part where you can see the pieces of ice sheet line-scrolling by in the ocean background (at Robotnik).

Duck Tales had a nice snow stage. I prefer the Gameboy version but the NES version is also good.

Great list of games, keep um coming. There was a game that the snow actually accumulated while you were playing, not sure if it was Super ghouls and ghosts for the Snes.

Enduro have ice levels (lol) so as top gear for snes.

Running Wild for the psx have ice levels too.

I think almost all racing games have ice levels.

How about every single RPG, platformer, racing game and adventure game made since the NES came out?

I'm not even being sarcastic, having fire and ice stages in a game is a staple.

Iceman in Mega Man with those &!(@$ platforms.

    Crystalis had the ice mountain...

RPGs generally have "the ice boss"

I always really enjoyed the wintery levels in Donkey Kong Country. The storms always seemed so ominous, what with the music and all.

Some of the megamans had snow/ice levels...

The one that stands out to me the most is MM7. First you had to find out how to make it rain then how to make it snow in order to find protoman...

Kickle Cubicle and Snow Brothers. Those games are ice levels.

Magical Quest (SNES) had a nice looking snow level and I believe TMNT The Arcade Game had one as well.

I'll second Ice Cap Zone. It took ages for Sonic to have a snow theme level! But it was worth the wait, and music is awesome. Snow levels are still a rarity in Sonic games sadly.

    Banjo Kazooie's Freezy Peak level.

James Pond (II I think...? I remember the overworld being overly Christmassy. Must replay this sometime soon!)

I'm still waiting for a fantastical snow/ice dungeon from Zelda. The one in TP was a slight disappointment I felt.

Mario 64 had a pretty good ice level... frustrating at times, but good.

    Ice Climber, too.

Also, I think the original Mario Bros. arcade game has an ice stage every few levels, but this may just be in one of the re-releases on GBA or some-such.

I always liked the snow village/mountain area in Lunar EB on the Sega CD.
TMNT 2 on the NES had a snowy Central Park level which was pretty cool and was, I believe, exclusive to the NES version....

Its been awhile since I've played it, but I recall Yoshi's Island had some awesome winter levels. There were levels where you could push a snowball and it would grow bigger and bigger as you kept rolling it, and I'm pretty sure there was one level where as you progressed through it , the weather changed from a light snow to a raging blizzard. That level really impressed me.

I'm actually getting this game for SNES for Christmas along with All-Stars, and I can't freaking wait! I recently 100% completed SMW and am ready to rock Yoshi's Island.

This, whole-heartedly. The snow starting in the background, eventually turning into a full blizzard. The background itself contained a world of it's own, having so much depth, literally and figuratively. Those kinds of environments in any game tend to be my favorite.
