Default Good Unknown/Underrated SNES or SFC fighters?

Doesnt Matter if Anime based or not

Gundam Wing Endless Duel is a great example, but while not nearly as good as Endless Duel, I think Kidou Butoden G-Gundam is underrated.

How is the SNES version of that different from the Genesis one? I have the Genesis one but that doesnt fit in with this thread. But yeah Saturday Night Slam Masters counts.

I really enjoyed Dead Dance for SFC. The US release as Tuff E Nough was neutered.

Art of Fighting 2 for SFC kinda flew under the rader but I thought it was a decent port.

Although gameplay-wise it's not SFII or say, Tournament Fighters, but for fans of the source material, it's pretty damn close to Heaven.

Also, if we're talking wrestling games too, Natsume Championship Wrestling is pretty damn underrated/unknown as well. Finest 'pure' wrestling game on SNES by far IMO

Maybe not so unknown, but Weaponlord is definitely underrated.

I'm quite fond of the SNES ports of World Heroes 2 and Fatal Fury Special, not obscure but neither were they blockbusters.

No, I was thinking just straight fighting games on the SNES or SFC.
Like Cho Aniki, I seen someone say that game was good. but I never played it and it looks weird as shit.

    Also the flashier the better!

The Turtles fighter game is solid, and I think the second Ranma title is the best of the three that were released.

Ranma 1/2: Chougi Ranbu Hen and Chō Aniki: Bakuretsu Rantōden for the Super Famicom. Cho Aniki is actually how the Dragon Ball Z fighters should have been for the air battles.

This is kinda a loaded question.... Because only a few fighters were ever good.

Ive played alot of fighting games on the snes and well... They just dont feel right.
I mean the midway mk series and capcom games are first rate but the snk games ive played feel "cartoony". I cant put my finger on what makes them bad, maybe poor hit detection , i dont know but there just bad. Compare any of the sf games to fatal fury and it just isint the same.Fatal futy comes off feelin realy generic. Marvel war of the gems and mutant apocalpse feel more like fighting games to me...

Back on topic if you let sat. night slam masters fly then I really like wrestle mania the arcade game. Its a mix of MK and WWf !!!

p.s. Ive never played tmnt fighters how does it stackup???

IMHO it's the best "SNES-only" fighting game. Extremely playable and loads of fun against a similarly talented human opponent. The CPU, however, is pretty damn brutal.

Oh? How was the US version neutered?

On a side note, I know it's not a very popular fighting game (or even opinion) but I seriously dug me some SNES Fighter's History. It's just a good old fashioned blatant SFII rip-off that I find plenty playable, with nice large arcade-like graphics and all the cheesiness of the arcade game. I think the SNES translation is a damn fine effort. That's my story anyhow and I'm stickin' to it!

I like Power Moves (Power Athlete in Japan), but it's generally regarded as a bad game, so look into it for yoruself before believing me. It's another SFII rip off, but a rather cool one - and the fact that you jump using a button (IIRC) is quite a change on the gameplay dynamics.

Heh, I have good memories with Power Athlete/Moves. It was the first ever import game my bro and I rented back in the day. I really liked it back then, but revisiting it about four years ago... sadly, it's not as playable as I remembered. It's very clunky and I would not recommend it at all. But who knows, your mileage may vary. It was also unique for the fact that the stages allowed you to move up and down a la a beat 'em up. It just sucked that 1. The controls are clunky 2. Blocking special moves takes off no energy and 3. You could only control Joe in the 1P mode

I wrote a review of the game here: http://www.rvgfanatic.com/7401/66101.html

The graphics weren't bad for '92 though..

Good game, although a bit broken. You can plow through it using only Michaelangelo's shoryuken.

Also, Fighter's History Mizoguchi has the most impressive, polished combo system on SNES.
