    Default A Few Random Questions...

    Hey all,

I have a few random questions that I hope some of you will be able to answer.

    1) Will a Super Famicom controller work in a PAL system?

    2) Will Genesis games work on a PAL system?

    3) Is there an easy way to play Japanese PS2 games on a PAL system?

    4) If I buy a copy of a game from Europe, will the in-game text be in the language of that country?

    5) Is there a way to make a GCON45 work on a flat-screen tele?

    Can anyone help?

    1. Good question. I would assume that all Super Famicom controllers would be interchangeable unless the changed the pin pattern or connector from some reason.

    2. NTSC will not work on PAL systems.

    3. Probably not, but perhaps the is a workaround that I don't know about. As I said, as far as I know, you can't get NTSC games to work with PAL systems.

    4. Yes.

    5. Don't know about that.

    2) Hmmm... I have a converter for the SNES that allows me to play NTSC on my PAL system. Does such a converter exist for a Mega Drive??

    4) Bugger.

Mostly for playing Megadrive games on the Genesis you need to modify the cart port or use a Game Genie. The Genie also provides region lock out bypass codes for those games with such things. I'm not sure about going the other way.

    3. If you have a slimline, Tape & Tissue mod your PS2 then buy the PAL version of Swap Magic. I'm pretty sure it'll work.

That's what I thought. I had completely forgot about the light guns for my NES when I switched to my LCD. It turns out that you can get after market guns that will. Perhaps there is a after market version that will work for him?

controllers work fine with any snes/sfc system.

Theres an adapter called the mega key that will let you play any PAL game on a NTSC console and vice versa, but they are super rare and expensive

Genesis games will not work on a PAL system

No easy way to play Japanese ps2 games on a PAL console without modding or using swap discs.

Most games from Europe are Multi-lingual or just in English. Some games might be in the specific countries language. Research first before buying.

No idea what a GCON45 is

    1-Yes
2-Yes, as long as the Genesis game isn't region locked it will boot up on a PAL Mega Drive. Most PAL Mega Drive games were the exact same as the NTSC Genesis release, that's why they're letterboxed and play slower. Only a few Euro only games where properly programed for PAL 50hz.
3-Have to install a mod chip or use a boot disc.
4-Pretty much all Euro releases had multiple language options or where just in English.
5-I'm guessing this is a light gun so I'd guess no, I could be wrong though.

Where can I get a boot disc??

I have a slim line Playstation 2 and want to play "Cowboy Bebop".

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowboy_...ku_no_Serenade

I'm not adverse to chipping my Playstation but I have no idea how to do it.

No idea what a GCON45 is
It was the standard issue gun for the Playstation. See here...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GunCon

I have "Die Hard Trilogy" and it sucks without the gun. Does anyone know of a modern gun that would be backwards compatible?

With regards to European games, they are always much cheaper on eBay and I figured that if they were the same as their English counterparts I might as well buy from the rest of Europe. I shall just ask the sellers for more information.

Do a search for Swap Magic. Sorry I can't be of any better help, I never bought one myself, had friends that have but never asked where they got it.

Yep, it's a light gun. More specifically it's a Gun Con. I'm not sure which model though. They were used on the PS1 and PS2.

Just to make things clear, buying a boot disc won't let you play imports alone. You either have to buy a Flip Top lid to install or block the PS2's sensors. I'd personally just block the sensors because the Flip Top lids are kinda ugly. You have to open up the system to do either one, but blocking the sensors is easy. I know nothing basically about mod chips and stuff like that but I didn't have much trouble blocking the sensors. Here's a tutorial: http://ramendreams.wordpress.com/ Just make sure you tape the switch inside the system down well, I had some problems with this, but I wasn't using good tape either.

Watch out for German or French releases. Many RPG games for SNES, MegaDrive and Playstation were released specifically for each country market. Because of that, European eBay is flooded by German or French Terranigmas, Lufias, Zeldas, Soleils, Story-of-Thor's, BoFIIIs, Harvest Moons, Final Fantasys and others. But there is also a way to recognise an English-language version. Different covers/labels, different catalogue/serial nubers on cover/label.

Many of RPGs (mostly for Nintendo consoles like N64 or GameCube) had a language selection screen.

OP has a slim PS2 so he already has a flip top lid. When you buy the new versions of the Swap Magic disc they come with little flat plugs that you install to block the sensors. No need to go through the trouble of opening the system and taping anything up.

The regular slim PS2 lid doesn't work though, you have to have one like this: http://www.ps2cover.com/products/Swa...-Flip-Top.html The point of that lid is when you open it, the PS2 still thinks the lid is shut. Never heard of Swap Magic coming with plugs though, and I just modded my slimline not even two months ago.

Well that replacement lid is completely not needed since about 3 years ago they released a Swap Magic that has little pieces of plastic that you stick into the slims little sensor holes. You can still close the lid with the little plugs in place as well.
