Using the North American design or other Saturn controllers on PC?

Anyone here knows plain no-frills Japanese style USB ones are everywhere. I mean, even Sega themselves sells those official in the US (like that PlaySega joypad).

Except what about the American kind? Or things like a Virtua Cop gun (of course VERY few monitors would support it), Virtual On sticks, that 3D pad bundled with Nights, etc? It'd be nice to have more choices on PC when it comes to Saturn.

I once found a PC card that let you plug in Saturn games directly. It was officially endorsed by Sega, but I was an idiot and didn't pick it up.

Failing that, some guy who posted a link to a USB adaptor project and it included the Saturn.

I had a USB clone of the US Saturn pad. It was transparent blue and clear to match the original iMac.
It was the best PC controller I've ever used, far better than the controller it's copied from, but it didn't stand up to daily use and just got too 'mushy' after a few years.

You can buy USB Saturn pads from Hong Kong on ebay that are offically licensed by Sega. Careful, there are knockoffs too.

Not forgotten, just ignored. I actually had no real issue with the original American pad until I tried the 3D pad and the Japanese SS version.

See I happily used American ones for years unaware what Japan had. When I did happen upon that, I happened to NOT like it. Due to my gargantuan hands. Accordingly (as I mentioned in another topic), all Saturn controllers I currently own are US type.

Why force myself to use something I don't enjoy the ergonomics of? Doing so doesn't make any sense IMHO. Similar reason I'd barely used the Game Boy Micro I had long ago and decided to sell it, not comfortable for me.

I switched to the revision 2 as soon as I could, it was better for Street Fighter Alpha games, not to mention Virtua Fighter. I have exclusively used my 2nd Gen Saturn pad for PC gaming and emulation since I bought the 3-in-1 USB adapter from Liksang (thanks Sony for killing that great import company).

I'n not trying to troll at all, I am just wondering - since you like the US Saturn controller more than commonly preferable Japanese design, do you especially also like the N64 or Dreamcast controller? What about the first generation Xbox controller?

I actually prefer the Saturn's 3D controller and "The Duke" on the Xbox, oddly enough.

Wellllllll i love the saturn pads on pc. The second generation one is nice, the sort of 32x 6 button type controller? Id like an old model type, if anyone has a spare..i cant find them anywhere..mainly repros of knockoffs..ANYWAYS, i have a 3 in 1 converter that can have PS2, DC, or Saturn controller hookups. Its great and always recognizes 100% of my emulators without any software or dinking around with (not like my pc usb pads) and always behave..except my saturn controller. the cord, if moved (its kinda stiff) in any way while playing will summon a button use..whether its x or c, or whatever, it gets irritating while using save states. It'll reload a million times if the cord is moved or save or whatever it wants to do..

I'm surprised - although it is Elecom and they make a wide variety of controls usually of good quality. Looks nice.

Just get a USB adapter. We've got a pair of PC Magic Box adapters here, and my girlfriend uses hers with an American style controller all the time.

Aren't the Japanese Saturn USB pads really just modified Saturn pads that Sega was overstocked with ? I bought one from Lik-Sang years ago and it was one of the best expensive purchases I've ever made. Have used it for emulation ever since.

The 3D Saturn pad was good too though. I have one of the Christmasy ones (not USB, but could be modded) -- and that fits big hands.

I used to have the SimpleJet USB knockoff of the US Saturn pad. It's transparent bondi blue to match the original iMac.
It was much better than the actual Saturn pad, until the dpad got worn out from years of playing emulated fighting games.

Seconding that. I have a PC 3-in-1 Joy Box that works fine with US Saturn pads. I gather they've become quite hard to find recently, but if you can track one down it does a good job. And hey, if you have anything interesting to trade... I don't really use mine anymore.

3D controller is harder to do though. USB adaptors generally don't support it even in digital mode. I only saw one adaptor that could do it and it's pricey.

It would be cool if there was an adaptor for the 3D controller that just popped in the back of the controller, replacing the module that connects it to the Saturn.

I just bought a couple of the Saturn USB ones online. If I don't like em, I'll get a PS2 adaptor and use my wireless PS2 controllers.
