Default New Adventure II Atari 5200 demo to try out!

    http://cafeman.www9.50megs.com/atari...dventure2.html

    You can find it there!

I estimate the game is about 40% done. This demo is not really the most current build because I have a flickering / sprite player re-use routine that isn't complete and it gets glitchy. In this demo, you only can have one "object" each time you play, but said object does accomplish its purpose. Dragon will kill you, you can kill it IF you locate the sword and if the sword in in the current game you are playing.

Anyway, regardless of which of the 3 possible items get assigned randomly, each will accomplish its purpose -- the gold key, the bridge sprite, or the sword. The sword does not have its "handle" yet because that is a missile and I haven't put those in yet.

For the upcoming AGE and CGE shows, the game will have an even bigger area to explore and multiple sprites per screen, as well as the item-stealing Troll and other characters.

Doesn't work here. Big surprise, right?

Screenshots of that game look great, though, and it's about time the 5200 had a good RPG, like the 2600, Intellivision, and the ColecoVision!

Another thing I neglected to mention is that you can cross over logs that block off a section of the screen. You can get between the logs that are aligned vertically -- you might have to go up & down to fight it a few times or to align yourself just right, but you CAN do it. Thus, if you see any object in this demo and think you can't get to it, think again.

As the game gets progressed further though, you will need the bridge at times to get to an object.

@Aswald: what emulator / operating system do you use?

I'm so glad I got my 5200 going.... count me in as one of your first customers when you get it out. This looks like an incredible game. I'm rather amazed at the graphics you've cranked out of the system! Excellent job!

Wow! That looks awesome! That almost looks like a Zelda clone!!! (btw, would a Zelda clone even be possible on a 5200??? THAT would be even cooler!!!)

Hey, I have your name right at the top of the Adv II development page! He's right folks, Raccoon Lad is a freakin' MASTER of getting the most out of limited colors /resolution/ character size.

Don't forget the 3rd member of our "Square Trio" either -- Alan Davis. He is the person who got the pucrunch compression routine working in the first place, which allows us to have at least 3-4 times the amount of screens than if we had not used compression.

Wait until you see the rest of Raccoon's art ideas for the Ice Kingdom and the dark forests of the Fire kingdom. To quote Jack, YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

Where IS Alan anyway? I hope he isn't on a list of war casualties somewhere.

I think he's on a sub or a boat. No internet.
