    Default Are these prototypes?

    Hi,

I was wondering if the games in the following picture are prototypes or pirate carts. The seller claims they are prototypes.

Sorry for the bad image quality, I asked the seller for better pictures.

    Thanks in advance

The game in the top left corner definitely has a prototype label, and the game below it appears to as well. The other two don't appear like prototypes to me, but it's really hard to tell from the pictures.

What's the name of the game in the top left?

Wow, thanks for your quick response. I think I can read 'Super Empire Strikes Back' with a little imagination.

There's also a third cart with a blank label (no printings like the first two) with 'Super SWIV' written on it.

The two in the row on the left appear to be genuine prototypes judging by the label, but the other two might either be repros, pirates, or , somehow (insanely), legitimate protos.

How much would these be worth if you would only count the Empire Strikes Back and Wing Commander as real prototypes? I'm not really looking for protos, but it would be nice to have some in my collection.

And IF I bought them, is there any way of determining if they are real or not? The seller said the labels on the right looked very amateuristic, so I'm hoping a previous owner just pasted them over for better looks. I would consider them a bonus if they were prototypes.

Just counting ESB and Wing Commander as real protos, you're probably looking at around $150-$200 or so. If Starfox was real, you might be looking at a healthy multiple of that number (1st-party Nintendo protos = $$$). Best way to tell if they're legit: pop 'em open (or just remove the screws ), look for official markings on the boards (i.e. "(C) Nintendo" and such) and EPROMs (with either stickers or clear windows) intead of standard mask ROMs.

$150-$200 is pretty high for two released games on the SNES. Lately, snes prototypes have been fetching between $30 and $80 each.

The two games on the right look like they could be pirates, but it is pretty unlikely that StarFox could be pirated. If I were to guess, if it is actually Star Fox, is that it is a home made label.

Though as the others said, the picture is shitty quality, hard to make a true assessment.
<Evan_G> i keep my games in an inaccessable crate where i can't play them

Aww... They got sold before seller replied to my message. Hate it when that happens...

Thanks for all your help though.

The top right one is Parodius, and without a shadow of a doubt the two on the right are definitely pirates.

Considering sample carts like the one on the top left alwayss eem to be finals, I wouldn't have expected much anyways.

Looks like we found the buyer:

Looking at that Star Fox board, it certainly looks as though it's a legitimate prototype.
