On the side there's a small wheel that adjusts the brightness of the Game Boy. Turn that up to your setting of preference, and the screen will return back to its normal color.

    was that the problem?

if not, GB screens can go bad, but they usually end up going bad in bands, not an entire black screen

edit: btw, there is a subforum for tech and repair questions

Ahhh, the good old days. Back when Gameboys had contrast wheels on them. Hopefully that's the problem.

Y'know, it's sad how quickly people forget how these things work (i.e., the contrast wheel). Give it five to eight years and the newer generations will not know an actual Game Boy beyond the Virtual Console.

That's why it's up to us vets to keep the old days from fading.

Or. "The Game Boy? He's that one pro gamer who won the Mario 3 tournament right?"
Everything in the above post is opinion unless stated otherwise.

I'll admit, after years of only playing GB games on my GBA, I went back and fixed my GB Pocket's case problems and missing battery cover, and when I fired it up, thought something was wrong with it until I remembered the contrast wheel a minute or so later.
