Default The BEST unknown SNES game the world needs to know about (NEW four-player thoughts on page 3)

It's a game that's never been reviewed before. It's SO obscure that there's NOT EVEN a video of this game on YouTube! Now that's saying something. Enough is enough. The time has come for all that to change. This awesome four player game has been buried and left hidden in the shadows for FAR too long. If you love the SNES, or just love simple, charming, fun, addicting games -- you simply must see this. Sadly, the game remains UNRELEASED to this day. Perhaps a good man, like Brandon Cobb and his Super Fighter team (who will be releasing Nightmare Busters for SNES later this year -- bless them!), will give this game some consideration for release in 2012?? One can only hope! I'll say that if SFT, or anybody ELSE for that matter, if anyone releases this game I'd bet on it becoming a smash hit RUNAWAY SUCCESS in the SNES/retro gaming community. It's such a unique and fun one-of-a-kind game that I'm sure many will gladly purchase. Heck, I know I would.

And no, it doesn't work on the SNES PowerPak. If anyone can find a way to get it to work on the PowerPak, please let us know in this topic!

OK, what's the game called? And why all the hype(rbole)?
Read it, watch it, then play it for yourself and see.
YMMV, but it's definitely a quality game!

Perhaps THE best unknown SNES game around... 'tis a shame

Awesome write up and video. It looks really fun, it'd be down for a repro of it, day one.

This is a game I'd definitely like in the collection. I've loved mini golf games since Atari 2600 Miniature Golf.

Looks like it's a solid fun game, which usually is the case concerning miniature golf simulations. Thanks for sharing, I'll have to try this out.

According to GameFAQs, it was released, suggesting it was only available as a Satellaview download.

As I said on another forum, it is not possible to play this on a real snes without the Satellaview hardware without extensive hacking. I tried the game out last night, and it is a lot like Kirby's Dream Course. There are actually quite a few gems in the Satellaview collection. d4s made a hack to make the Satellaview version of Excitebike playable on a flash cart, for instance.

I was going to say it looks a lot like Kirby's Dream Course. Great SNES game so I'd probably be interested in this.
Everything in the above post is opinion unless stated otherwise.

This game plays just fine on a flash cart with no additional hardware.

Now that's pretty damn cool. I'll have to give that one a try.

Really? You've actually played this game on your flash cart? Please tell us how, because every time I go to load it up, I get the "no internal header" message. What steps must one take to get this to work on a flash cart? Thanks in advance.

@ Evan, thanks for the Excitebike link! I'll have to try that out.

Thanks for the game recommendations! I tried Excitebike and it is a good game. I got to figure out the gameplay, but so far it seems simple enough.

I couldnt get the golf game to fire up on my powerpak, two roms and still a no go.

Lets keep this tread going, any other games to check out???

Same here. I don't know if it works on the PowerPak. Oddly, I heard someone else say it works fine on their ToToTek flash cart, without any hacking or special tricks. Weird.

Does it just not work at all on the PowerPak? BeaglePuss, what flash cart do you have?

Apologies for hopping into a Satellaview-related thread late!

On the note of the Powerpak: From what I recall of the "hardware testing" for the BS Zelda hack projects, The Powerpak does not detect Satellaview-format headers, which look pretty different from standard SNES ROM headers. This actually -shouldn't- be too a major problem, except the Powerpak -requires- a valid SNES ROM header to boot up a ROM - it on it's own will refuse to boot a ROM with what it sees as problems with it's header. This is why the ROM would boot up on a Tototek but not a Powerpak.

d4s's Excitebike patch probably modifies the header into a standard SNES ROM header, which would explain it's powerpak-compatibility handily.

So! Permission to link your review on Satellablog? This is a game I kinda neglected due to... not really being much into Golf.

The Satellaview is full of solid games which have mostly fallen into obscurity.

Wow, what a fun game, even after playing one game I want a real copy.

I've always liked mini golf, in real life and in games. Shame that they don't make many anymore.

Why not just make a reproduction cartridge? I'd buy it, if it were translated.

Hmm, how would one modify the header into a standard SNES ROM header? Can anyone do this for this game, like d4s did for Excitebike? Also, does anyone here have the Everdrive? If so, please test if BS Golf runs on it and report back. Much appreciated in advance.

Yeah, right? It's a fun game indeed

No one I know of has been able to convert this game onto a real cartridge. If they had, I would buy it in a second. I guess at this point, our options are:

A). Hope someone modifies the header into a standard SNES ROM header (if you own the PowerPak)

B). Hope that Super Fighter Team (or someone else) will consider releasing it proper in 2012

C). Buy a Tototek flash cart (since it's been confirmed to work on that). Awaiting word on Everdrive's compatibility

I've changed headers through hex before - to start with, here's some info on Satellaview ROM headers.

    http://wiki.superfamicom.org/snes/sh...llaview+Header

    Compare and contrast with a standard SNES header;

    http://romhack.wikia.com/wiki/SNES_header

And if you understand ROM Hacking enough it'd be possible to make the changes yourself.

Assuming this is the only issue this game has with running on the Powerpak (Hearing that it runs on the Tototek makes me believe this is the case), then it shouldn't be too difficult to get it working on there, or making a "repro cart" of it (although since we're talking about Satellaview downloads, the term "Repro cart" is a misnomer for them, since you're not actually recreating how the game was originally distributed.)

If it's anything like Kirby's Dream Course, which it appears to be, count me in.

Alrighty, who is up to making the needed changes to make this run on the powerpak. It sounds like more than a few people know how to do it. I for one, will donate $10 to the person who is able to make the changes. Anyone else?
