Default GBC game losing saves even after battery replacement

My wife was playing a Harry Potter game on the Gameboy Color, and a few weeks ago she turned it on and her save was no longer there (and a language screen popped up). So I bought a brand new battery and replaced the old one. Everything went well. She started playing again, but after about two weeks her save disappeared again (and the language screen came up).

Note, this is the Europeon version, which is why there's a language screen where you select what language you want the game to be in.

I would like to know if there are "non-battery" reasons for losing saves on a GBC game. The second battery worked fine for a while, so I don't think it was a bad battery. Could there be a glitch? Thanks for your help.

Which harry potter game was she playing? Sorcerer's Stone or Chamber of Secrets?

I'll look into it and see if anyone else has reported experiencing this issue. Sad as it may be, you should entertain the idea that the battery is bad, even if it worked for a little while. It happens.

Virtually all games that have a battery save have a RAM chip in them, where the save data is kept. Maybe the RAM chip's bad?

How would you go about testing that?

The game is Chamber of Secrets. Is there any way to test a battery that small? The RAM chip could be bad I guess, but the saves do hold most of the time.

I wasn't able to find anything on either Harry Potter game on the GB having bad saves.

Just get another cart. The game is pretty common.
