Default One LCD HDTV to rule them all?

I'm trying to find a screen to connect at least four systems to. So, Hdmi, component, s-video, standard av, 15-pin for pc, and hopefully coaxial too. As many as possible; plugs in every oriface. Looking at 26".

Does anyone have first hand experience with one?

I don't have enough experience with LCD's to really give you a solid rec, but I'd tell you to forget about the 15-pin and go with an HDMI to 15-pin cable. It's what I use and it looks great!

Only advice to give it look second hand. A lot of current TVs are shedding their older ports (S-Video and AV) to save cost.

Why not just buy a switcher instead of trying to connect to every possible port on the TV? I don't know of any current HDTVs that still have S-Video ports and 15-pin is getting rarer as well.

I have an Insignia LCD HDTV (1080p) with

    1 S-Video
    1-AV
    2-Component
    2-HDMI
    1-PC VGA

I don't know if you are looking for more but this is the most inputs I could find for a TV when I was looking. The one I bought is a 22in but they used to make them from 22 up to the 40s. This was about 2 years ago I bought it, so I don't know if they still make them.

Also I think Insignia is a Best Buy exclusive, and the one I have cost about $300.

Yup second hand is definitely an option, and a switch box with a diverse array of input options may be hard to come by. Checking into it...

You can always get an XRGB Upscaler. I bought a Plasma a few months ago without S-video inputs, so I was forced to find a solution. The XRGB Frame Meister is coming out "soon" I think...

You could always get a cheap surround sound receiver with video ports. Most receivers from onkyo will convert everything from composite to component for output through an HDMI cable, so you would only need the one HDMI cable going from your receiver to your tv, and hook all your systems directly into the reciever. You don't need to get an actual surround sound system with the receiver, it can output sound through the TV.

But wouldn't that create some hefty lag (whatever that means)? From all my research the best bet for classic gamers is XRGB, and I've been happy with my 2+.

To be honest I couldn't tell you. I have a similar setup for my CRT. I use a receiver and multiple hubs for all my systems and have them hooked into my CRT, which doesn't seem to have any input lag whatsoever. The situation may be different for an LCD, but most modern LCDs have a game mode which reduces input lag. I've only briefly hooked up a retro system to my HDTV through my receiver and I didn't perceive any input lag. You would have to experiment.

You'll have better luck finding a PC monitor with AV inputs than a tv with VGA.

I've always wanted a XRGB but shelling out the cash for it has never been appealing to me.

And what is this Frame Meister?

Yesss, so I went really quick to a local appliance repair place and among the dozens of fridges and ranges there stood the perfect retro tv. It's a 2007 RCA HD flatscreen, has Hdmi, component, composite, s-video, 15-pin, AND coax- all for $100. Raiden III never looked better.

    ...so happy!

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Why must XRGBs be so expensive anyway?

If you had gone new-ish Fontaine, I would have suggested a Sony Bravia. If the latest 26" models are anything like the older 40" one I have here, it would have everything on it you need...

What he said. I'm not sure if the dude still has them available, but I picked up my XRGB 2+ for $270 shipped a few months ago. I can't guarantee that price or if they're still around, but shoot me an email for the seller's contact info.

Even though I'm happy with the 2+ I'm interested to see what a modern XRGB device can do.

I have a newer Onkyo receiver with built in upscaling and I don't have any lag whatsoever.

Have you actually tested it - some people just don't notice a lag of a few frames.
