Default The Supaboy - New SNES handheld from Hyperkin

    Anyone seen this?

    http://yfrog.com/h4dgmyzj

Apparently, it was revealed at the Midwest Gaming Classic, but I can not find any other info about it...looks cool. Hopefully it will have a better screen than the FC-16 Go.

It was actually.. I watched a little of it. a built in rechargeable battery (If I remember correctly).. I can't remember if it plays SFC games or not.. but I wouldn't see why not...

All I can say is I was too busy organizing my goodies as the presentation wasn't that interesting.

Hm..Hyperkin does make some fairly decent stuff for knock offs. I wonder how this will compare to the Yobo FC-16 GO?

is the FC16 Go the way to go now? are there any others in the works to get excited about like the supaboy??

and do they work with the Everdrive?

I remember hearing about Hyperkin working on a portable SNES even before the FC16Go was released, and up to now had assumed they'd abandoned that project.

The FC16Go is pretty good, with the only obvious weakness being its very meaty design, short battery life and not-as-sharp-as-it-could-be LCD screen. There's certainly room for a competing portable SNES, especially if it address those three weaknesses. Given that Innex and Hyperkin are almost the only names in town when it comes to these kinds of devices, I don't expect any other portables like this coming out outside of the ones that run multiple emulators.

    Nice.

While I didn't mind the pseudo DS design of the FC 16 Go this seems to hit the basic beats of a portable system that doubles as a console pretty well.

We'll have to wait and see what if anything they get wrong, but aesthetically it doesn't look bad at all.

    oops. link already posted above...

I like the cart lock feature and the bright and crisp screen description. May have to get this when it comes out.

Looks like the price will be $79.99....then again, the FC 16 Go is listed at $69.99 on their site...

hmm...$80 is starting to push it. Seems a little high considering the FC16 Go can be bought for less than $60.

Will it come with any accessories? maybe some decent controllers? for that price, it better come packaged with some other goodies.

    [QUOTE=Satoshi_Matrix;

In the case of EarthBound, Nintendo was heavily promoting the game, and since Final Fantasy II and III were common targets of copying devices, they wanted to ensure EarthBound wouldn't be in the similar position. So rather than refusing to boot, EarthBound would place 2-4x more enemies in EVERY AREA making the game no fun to play, and if you did manage to get your way through the whole game, you'd have your game save erased by the final boss. Nintendo: the original trollface.[/QUOTE]

I have been following all things SNES for 20 years and never knew this. Thanks for that!

Someone should buy this guy a Supaboy. Preferably, someone who is, unlike me, employed.

Seriously, though, a sound fix would be superb. Also would be nice if Hyperkin would offer spare screen covers like Nintendo used to offer for Game Boys. I've been chatting with tofu about that via PMs. To me, though, the good in this system far outweighs the bad.

I literally have a master's degree in clones, but that doesn't matter ..What matters is to find a solution for those Supaboys with the fault, and have point of no return...

I agree. I think the system is great, but it's a shame so many have sound issues

It would be great if someone would get this new model and tear it apart and see if there's anything simple those of us who do have the systems with the audio issues can do to fix it. Also, the blatant hatred for Hyperkin/clones seems a little uncalled for. If you're gonna nitpick, pick up a psp for less money than the Supaboy or other clone and emulate. I like playing the actual carts on a handheld I didn't have to build myself or pay someone hundreds for. I have my gripes, but for me, the good outweighs the bad.

Problems with a single game is no reason to write off the entire system. We all know you can't expect 100% compatibility from a clone. If your love for Street Fighter runs so deep, you've likely got it on another console and prefer to play it with an arcade stick instead of a pad. It's not going to be a dealbreaker for most people considering the purchase of a Supaboy.

Never mind the fact that SFA2 is quite possibly the worst SF port on the system. Even turbo mode feels like slow motion, and there are goofy pauses at the beginning of every single round.
Stick to SF2Turbo and Super SF2.
