Default N64 replacement joysticks good or bad

Has anyone had experience with the replacment joysticks they sell on sites like ebay? Do they work, feel right, etc?

There are more than a few varieties of replacement sticks being sold.
You are taking a gamble, unless they are guaranteed (no likely) to be new old stock (NOS) official Nintendo replacement sticks.

More than a few times I've looked at online sales of replacement analog sticks, I've found that they are used sticks that have been salvaged from junk controllers.

Yeah, most of the replacements I've seen online are 3rd-party sticks that never look like the original.

Anyone know if N64 joysticks stay tight, centered and snappy with regular use? I have several systems and tons of controllers, but I never play my N64 often enough to determine this for myself. I always wondered if all of the worn-out controllers (that I find at yard sales, etc.) are from years of normal use, or from kids constantly wrenching on, or otherwise abusing, them. Or are they inherently destined to become worn out?

I've looked into doing this to repair a yellow controller I got a few weeks back, although I found one style of replacement joystick I'm considering; it's one that has the interior of the joystick made out of metal (Like a Gamecube controller), and is supposedly more sensitive and more reliable long-term than the original. If you want, I can post a link

I've only seen one variety of replacement analog sticks, and the reports have been good about them and I've tried and liked them.

The only others I've ever seen have been cleaned up used ones from 1st party gamepads that have been sold to unsuspecting buyers.

I'm not aware of a large variety of options out there like some in this thread suggest.

Got the new joystick and replaced the old one and I have to say its works perfectly. It is designed like the gamecube stick so if your looking for authenticity then its not for you. But if you just want the controller to work than its great.

    Got mine from lukiegames.

Yep, that's exactly the one I've been seeing online lately. Very pleased to hear that it works so well. Congrats!
