This isn't surprising.
If Nintendo is going to announce a successor system at E3, they're going to HAVE to cut the price of Wii if they expect to continue selling them.
How often have price cuts of existing hardware come just before or just after announcements for new hardware? I know DSi and XL got a price cut just after 3DS was announced.
I *SERIOUSLY* doubt Nintendo will be announcing a new console at this year's e3, especialy since Sony and Microsoft have yet to indicate that they're bringing out any new hardware.
And once again, TRU's crack merchandising team decides to put them on sale for $30 off this week - just to piss everyone off when next month rolls around and they become even cheaper as the regular price. Nice work guys...
The original Playstation hit $150 in 1997. Timing means nothing. (Except, damn they've been niggardly with price cuts this gen.)

Gamecube 3.0... This time with a pair of Dolphins you straddle to ride in the water. The next innovation, the Nintendo Sii mammal controller.

My thoughts exactly.
Although the Wii has seen some steep declines over the last year or so they are also still selling fairly well(200-400,000 a month in the US alone is not a bad thing). I'm not so sure they will announce a new system at E3 but if they do it won't be coming out until atleast 2012. Why? Because it would have to compete directly with the 3DS this holiday season since they would both be having their first holiday selling period at the sametime and most people probably wouldn't be buying both at the sametime, instead opting to choose one over the other.

True but there was no recession back then and gas prices weren't shooting up astronomically high every week. Hopefully gas prices will fall long before this holiday season starts.
