Default Super Mario Bros Lost Levels

ugh...I'm giving up on this game. I can't take it anymore. There's fun hard, there's challenging test yourself hard, and then there's I never want to play video games hard. This game stopped being fun long ago...and I just can't take it.

So yeah, you win game...you have beat me. I gave it my best, but in the end, you have defeated me. The nightmares and anger you caused me the last few weeks are over. I'm officially putting this game into my "I never want to hear/see/play you category". This game makes me sick.

Anyone want to share their horror stories with this game. Anyone actually manage to beat the game and extra levels? Cuz I never will.

I can do OK by trial and error with a real TV set. These kinds of games are even tougher in portable versions...

    Which version are you playing?

Sorry, I'm not adding to the conversation, just being curious .

When I was young and hardcore (i.e. had a lot of extra time on my hands) I beat the game and the extra levels when it was released on the SNES. Now that I am older and more casual (i.e. less time for games like this) I don't have the patience for it.

I agree with theclaw, the Lost Levels is near impossible on a handheld and a sure fire way to a headache.

A friend and I beat it a few weeks ago in about 6 hours. The only level we really had problems on was World 4-4, it was the hardest castle for us to beat.

Some of the levels did take some trial and error before we passed them, but I didn't think it was too hard.

Also I was playing on the SNES.

I remember playing the Lost Levels(Super Mario Bros 2 JAP). That game would frustrate the hell out of me. I beat it once and that was it. Never really played it anymore after that.

I beat it on the All Stars collection on SNES and on the GBC Super Mario Bros Deluxe all the way through both times. It's hard, and it does take some memorization, but I don't look at it as being terribly frustrating. I actually consider it a rite of passage :P

I've beaten the game multiple times, including the extra levels, on Mario All Stars for SNES. For some strange reason I really enjoy SMB2J, it's difficult but not impossible. I haven't played through it in years, gonna have to do that whenever I have the spare time.

I'm playing the SNES version, which apparently is easier than the NES version I think. sigh I've NEVER given up on a game, everything game I start I finish, and I'm still reluctant to do it especially for a Mario game, but after about the 10,000 death, I'm starting to lose faith

I've yet to beat this game, but I've played through some of the higher levels. It seems to be alot harder if you try to play through slow. If you approach the game like a speed run challenge and just try to blaze through a stage non-stop, I find it to get a little easier. It just takes memorization and a heck of a lot of precision (and sometimes luck when facing Bowser: shooting fire, jumping, and throwing hammer crap while a rotating fireball thingie spins next to him).

Also, powerups are pretty much useless. In a couple castles with mushrooms, I found I was dying because of my height. What a bastard of a game, punishing you for trying to gain an advantage!

I've been able to finish this game a few times too. It's pretty hard but not impossible it just takes patience. I really like this game though.

lots of vulgarities were spewn from that game.

I brought my copy over to a friends house back in the day, i'd usualy sleep over every weekend after school, one weekend we were working on 8-4 (ok I was, he was watching) and his older sister sat down and watched us for awhile, she had commented on how impossible the level seemed to be, she eventually left for work. shortly after we gave up and left to go do something else.

next weekend came around and I was once again there, and we started again to try to beat the level, and his sister happened to come back in the room and commented "seriously is that the same level?" yup!, she stayed for a bit and we finally (we again being me) were able to beat the level, she seemed even happier than we were that the level was finally under our belts. ended up beating the last 4 worlds with very little trouble, but god--damm that 8-4 was brutal.

    Everyone knows about this right:

    http://www.retrousb.com/product_info...products_id=93

This version is better than all the other repros out there, you can select a level at the start, and the wind actually blows like the FDS version, thought i wouldn't assume everone knew about this.

I beat the SNES version, well I mean I got past Level 9-4, a little while ago. Didn't really give me too much trouble. In fact, I ended up giving up while playing Super Mario Bros. 3 for it being too hard! I think the SNES verison is just a lot easier since you have unlimited continues from the start of each level instead of each world like the other games on All Stars.

I'm guessing this was not part of the original Famicom Disk System version though, which probably makes it a lot tougher.

I beat it many times all the way through, including all of the bonus levels, on All-Stars as a kid. In fact, while it was challenging for me, I never knew it had a reputation for being a ridiculously hard game. I wonder if the Lost Levels shaped me as a gamer because All-Stars was the very first game that I personally owned. I'm not even sure if I beat any games prior to the ones on All-Stars.

I've tried Lost Levels before on All-Stars, but it's a real pain in the ass, especially in the later levels. Props to whoever has managed to actually beat the game.

I had All-Stars since the late 90s, and didn't actually beat Lost Levels until I found the game again sometime in the 00s (in a box with one of my original, crumbling Snes pads - coincidence? :P)

Played the original on the VC recently and didn't make it past World 3. However, since I have learned the value of Nintendo hardware, nothing died.
