Default Sega CD Only Reads Discs with Lid Open

    Hey guys,

I have a model 2 Sega CD that I thought wasn't reading discs at all until I modified it to spin with the lid open (and taped a disc down). It reads perfectly with the lid open. As soon as I close it, it stops reading them.

Does anyone know if there is an alignment or something that I can do to fix this? I'm not sure if closing the lid is pulling the CD up a bit or pushing it down.

    Thanks...

If I'm not mistaken the lid drops down a small disc to help hold the CD on the spindle. It might be stopping the motor from spinning. Check to see if one even exists and if it does see if it moves freely.
I fix things. You name it, I'll work on it. Want something modded? Recapped?

Yes, it does. It's magnetic. My concern was that it may be pulling up on the CD pulling it out of alignment. I pulled it out and re-installed it. I didn't think to check specifically whether it is spinning freely or not. That's a good idea.

The next thing I was gonna try was to use that assembly (or the entire lid) from a different working Sega CD...
