I've never had that done, but I'm pretty sure what they do is take the board out of the cartridge case and put in one of their boards with the burned EPROM chip. So you basically just get a repro inside your original cart shell. As for rights issues, there are always rights issues when someone wants to raise them. If someone wants to be enough of a dick about it they can make the case that even translating a rom is illegal.

That EA box for ICFTD is a thing a beauty. Someone needs to make a repro for this now!

Thanks man! I think Mark is gonna have repros of it soon. Not sure which version of the cover he'll use though. Either way he does custom stuff, and it's not like there's a shortage of crappy EA carts to use as donors

Not yet, I haven't found a decent scan of the Japanese artwork. If I do though, I'll give it a shot for sure.

What size paper should I be printing these out on?

Also, does anyone know what kind of paper PS2 games were printed on?

Finally, again, if anyone can vouche for a printer i should try I need a new one. The pile I have from walmart won't even print PS2 covers because it's too small, too high resolution, or maybe a combination of those.

Unless of course you guys think it's still smarter to go to a store to have them printed out.

I wouldn't buy a printer just to print covers. If you were going to buy a printer anyhow, go for it. Just get a good inkjet unless you can afford a good color laser printer. For Genesis covers I've been using 8.5" x 11" photo paper and it's been perfect for me. You might need to bump up to legal sized from some covers.

It would be easier and cheaper for you to go somewhere to print them out though. They're going to use nice laser printers and they're going to have the right paper as well. As for the paper used on PS2 covers. You're not going to find it. Just go with a good gloss or semi gloss photo paper.

The Sega clamshell sized covers will fit on a standard 8.5"x11" page. The UGC ones will not, they're just a little too big, so you'll have to print them on a larger page, like 11"x17" or an in between size if you can get one.

I'm not 100% sure what paper they used for PS2 covers, it looks like a thicker variety of magazine paper though. Probably available from stationary or print shops.

As for whether you should buy a printer, well that all depends on how much printing you plan to do. If you're just planning to print a few covers here and there then you're probably better off going to a print shop. Now if you plan to do a lot of printing, then it'll likely be worth your while to invest in a decent printer for home. The only thing I should warn you about is these covers are really high colour so they're going to use up a lot of ink/toner. While toner cartridges typically last for a long time, they're pretty damn expensive, especially the colour ones, so keep that in mind.

As for what printers are the best, I don't really know enough to compare any. I have a Samsung printer/scanner/photocopier-in-one and it works great. If you want some comparisons of current models though, go on a site like Best Buy and read the customer reviews, that's what I did a few years ago when buying mine.

So I went top my local store that does this sort of thing, and had them print out a few covers from thecoverproject as a test and none of them came out right!

The DVD cover for REZ on dreamcast was too big the first time and has the sides cut off, and the second time when they unticked the page fitting option, it was too small but had the entire picture.

    Any idea what went wrong?

Aren't those covers suppose to match DVD cases as 1-1 copies?

I can't say if the UGC cover for mega man x3 i had them print is the right size but it definently doesn't fit sega genesis cases.

Who cut them out, you or the clerk? As for which case they fit, that depends. Some covers are done for the slim DVD cases and some are done for the standard DVD case. It specifies what case you're downloading at The Cover Project. As for the Mega Man cover, no, UGC covers will not fit right in a Genesis case. They are a different size.

How's the quality? From the pictures they look like crap.

They look ok, tried a thicker cardboard stock of paper so if I do this again i'm trying magazine paper or something.

EDIT: here's the case I tried to print out. It says DVD CASE STANDARD so i have no idea what went wrong.

Hmm well when you print, always print from photoshop. Before you hit print check the dimesions. (It's in Image > Image Size)

For UGC they should be: 3366x2100 pixels at 300DPI

For Sega clamshell they should be: 3188x2020 pixels at 300DPI

DVD case covers should be: 3225x2156 pixels at 300 DPI

If those dimensions check out then your prints should come out ok.

EDIT: Also, yes, UGC cases are larger then Genesis cases, so the UGC covers will not fit into a Sega clamshell case, you need to put those into a Universal Game Case. Which can be purchased from a place like this http://www.nintendorepairhut.com/acc...cessories.html (about 3/4 down the page ((Called SNES rental case on that page))).
