Default Ecco the Dolphin Review (Genesis)

Here’s a game we all remember…but really remember nothing about, right? What was Ecco really all about and does it hold up over the years?

"Ecco is one of the few characters that is widely known but at the same time nobody remembers what the plot of Ecco the Dolphin is or even who the antagonists are. Ecco the Dolphin’s complex gameplay and unrelenting difficulty forbade the majority of gamers from getting too far, which in turn leaves gaps in memory as to what the object of the game is."

That was an excellent and enjoyable review.

The only Ecco game I ever played on the Genny was Tides of Time on the Sega CD. My friend had it and we used to play it off and on. I remember it being fun but being very surreal and dreamlike.

After reading your review, looks like i'm gonna have to give the original Genesis version a shot! Music is also very important to me, so now i'm off to download the OST and see how it stacks up!

    Keep the reviews coming!

That review sums it up pretty nicely actually. The Sega CD soundtracks are absolutely amazing. As much as I wanted to get into this game, the difficulty always caused me to just turn it off.

The Dreamcast version is just as difficult. But similar in terms of graphics and the eerie soundtrack. I don't hear much about the Dreamcast version really. Someone should do a good in depth review on that one.

That's funny you mention that, I thought that I was the only one that slept to Ecco CD music.

    Cool
For a good nights sleep its ecco, the fan or both. lol its more of an addiction now

back in the day i ripped my original Ecco on dreamcast with a hack and serial cable to have the the stereo sound track in the highest quality. at that time you could use the scene released ver but they had to resample the sound track to mono for it to fit on a cdr, from a gd disc.

I hope a new ecco comes out soon,

    I remember this game.

Never owned it, but had borrowed it from a buddy of mine down the street every weekend. Used to switch off games we didn't have and would play them when out of school.

A bit harder than I expected but fun nonetheless.

Ecco 2 was way, way, way better.

    But that's just me.
