    Default Issues with arcades

    Hi,

I have the opportunity to get these arcade machines from a store which is about to close: ELVIRA SCARED STIFF and REVENGE FROM MARS 3D. Are any known issues with these machines? Somethings like unrepairable issues?

I'd appreciate any kind of information. Thanks.

Not knowing the difference between an arcade cabinet and a pinball machine ... you're in for a rough start to arcade game collecting.

They're pinball machines, not "video-game" arcade cabinets. Which, isn't a bad thing. Pinball is fun.

    Hooray for language barriers...

As an actual answer, there are a number of issues with the Pinball 2000 (Revenge from Mars) motherboards that are generally unrepairable. I believe there was an effort made to either source replacements or recreate them, but I don't know where that ended up.

Both machines will have a number of plastic "toys" and ramps on the playfield that are difficult to replace, but most are not required for the machines to be operational and fun to play. There are places to get replacements though, so I wouldn't call that a huge factor. The actual boardset for Scared Stiff should be fairly easy to maintain or replace as needed.

That said, both machines are a lot of fun, so if you enjoy them and can get them for a price that you are comfortable with, I'd say go for it. Pinball is a lot higher maintenance than other games, but it is well worth the effort.

He said "arcade machine" which is neither the phrase pinball machine nor arcade cabinate. In this situation I think the phrase "arcade machine" is perfectly justifiable if not slightly unorthodox.

The Revenge from Mars (Pinball 2000 machine) will eventually have a failed computer in it. You can order Nucore to replace it though.

Yep, absolutely. Any 'machine' found in an arcade is by definition an arcade machine That includes video games, pinballs, redemptions, skee-balls, and so on. The OP also listed the names of the 2 (obvious) pinball games, so... was there ever really any confusion as to what he was talking about?

Confusion? No. I think all of us know those pinballs by name.

I think David and I were more concerned that the OP didn't know what they were potentially buying.

I was anyway. Just trying to clear up any potential confusion for the OP.

Nah, I came across as a prick. I logged back into KLOV and spent like 30 minutes trying to catch up there - it does that to me.
