I just got an email giving me access to "Duke's First Access club". Apparently the demo will be available tomorrow.
Is this something that everyone gets access to or what?

As far as I know, you only get first access if you pre-ordered the game or if you bought Borderlands GOTY Edition. I think they gave me the code when I bought Borderlands on Steam, so I'll have to go track that down so I can redeem it.
Oh I hope the new Duke Nukem will be good. Anyone else feel it will be bad for the gaming community if this game ends up being crappy or mediocre?
They couldn't have come up with a worse way of distributing the demo.
The whole point of a demo is to get as many people as possible to try out the game, not to limit access to a small number of people, most of which have already bought the game anyway.
I got my email for download. Will be digging in as soon as I get home.
Downloading the demo off Steam right now.
"Ai Oboete Imasu Ka?"
I fully expect it to be mediocre. But I'm buying it because its Duke, and a Duke game is just stupid fun. A throwback to the shooters I grew up with. I don't think it will have any impact on the gaming community at large, beyond the usual stupid Fox News outrage bit. I expect there will be a bunch of dissapointed under-30-somethings who didn't play Duke 3D "back in the day," but bought into the myth/legend of DNF.

This is the reason developers continue to make shitty games. "I know it sucks, but it's Final Fantasy 13 and I'm buying it anyways." You purchase something that you're fully aware of that's going to be just a garbage money maker, and you're telling the developer you will buy up anything they throw out.
No Duke demo for me?!?! Hulk smash!!!
I like how you remove the context. Stupid fun. Like the shooters I grew up with. Does me buying a game that isn't the best game ever somehow offend you? Who cares? Buy what you like. I think I'll like Duke. I expect it to be mindless and mediocre with a splash of masogynism and funny one-liners. I'm buying it. For full price.

and your the idiot that makes game companies try to shoot for the stars and then fall miserably because you expect way too fucking much
What a duke nukem game is...
It never was revolutionary.. Even the old Duke Nukem 3d days. It basically was a Doom knock off with a few tweaks that doom didn't (such as look up and down). But what it did was provide mindless humor and fun that we all loved.
Kinda like the game serious sam.. Serious sam did not do anything differently then any other game out there at the time.. But it provided endless amount of mindless fun which is why it did so well
And this game Duke Nukem Forever is just that.. Mindless fun. We all know its not gonna reinvent the video game... Maybe ............. just maybe... we don't want a game the reinvents the video game... Maybe we just want a fun game for once. Just putting that out there. Maybe we want to see the hilarious shenningans duke nukem will create and what catchy phrases he will say.
And if you don't like well whatever thats your call but i know what duke would say
"Blow it out your ass"
So I just gave the demo a whirl, and what do I think?
Meh.
Now, I was playing this on my laptop (runs Windows 7), which has an AMD Phenom II Triple-core processor, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650, and 4 GB DDR3, all well above the recommended requirements, and the game still managed to have frame issues at points, not to mention the overall framerate didn't seem that high. The game also seemed to have some control latency, not game breaking, but an annoyance. Also I came across a few bugs, one of the most hilarious being watching the minecart fly all over the place before resettling on the tracks.
I'll give the game the benefit of the doubt though, since the demo seems to be the same one from PAX last year. A lot of these issues are bound to be fixed (hopefully) by now. I'll give the PS3 demo a shot when my brother redeems his code later.
Just played the demo tonight on my PC. Flawless! I was getting around 85-95 FPS, no control lag. Demo was smooth as silk!
Great Demo if you liked Duke Nukem 3D. But if you think its going to be better than COD or Battlefield games, then it will be lackluster to you.
I loved Duke, and I think the Demo rocked. This game will be a PC Game ported to Consoles, not the other way around, just a heads up!
Demo played on Intel i7 960 with a GeForce GTX 580, and 12GB RAM.
Ditto.
I have a 470 GTX and was actually getting a similar frame rate with ultra settings and reduce AA.
Game seems a little dated graphically, but not enough so to matter for me; may have even given it a feeling more akin to the original games rather than a modern fps. That's a good thing for Duke.
I liked the demo enough to play it 5 times already. It's not an amazing game and the graphics are poor but it's pretty fun.
