I have a Wi-Fi model pre-ordered at Amazon. With all the AAA games coming out for 360/PS3 around the same time...I don't know if I'll have time to play it. I may cancel the pre-order as that time draws nearer.

I keep reading that as "Phantasy Star V"

I don't keep up with gaming news really, so this is actually the first I've heard of the Vita. Mainly, I think what will determine my interest is if there are any exclusive Metal Gear games for the system and if I'm not burned out on the series by that time.

Whenever I see or hear the name of this console I keep thinking of cheese.

Okay so I did some reading up, and revised my stance a bit:

My question is: "Will this be able to play Mobile Phone games?"

There are several I want--King's Field Mobile I and II and the Metal Gear Solid phone games, especially--but I don't actually have a cellphone right now, so a portable system that can play them is the next best thing.

I'm pretty tempted, but I've learned better than to buy the first gen of any portable system. The 3G version has me really piqued. If they can make it double as a smartphone (with Android apps or something!) I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Sony seemed to be pushing for PSN and Android integration on the PSPGo-like phone so they might be looking into it. It would provide a interesting counter to the argument against portable gaming in the face of android and iphone gaming. However I feel like launching with only AT&T service available is going to turn off customers who are interested in this version.

No, but it will play any PSP games you have downloaded.

I remember when the PSPGo was announced as UMD-less Pelican talked about releasing a UMD addon for the device. Who knows, if the demand is strong enough and its actually possible we might see something similar with the PSV.

I've never heard of if until now, and given how often handhelds release updated versions (GBA SP, DSlite/i/XL, PSP2000/3000/Go etc.), I can't see myself ever purchasing one at launch, unless they come out with a dirt cheap one anyway. I never purchase anything at launch unless it's cheap. Given how many games I already have and how little time, it's a complete waste of money to.

The Vita will be compatible with Playstation Suite apps which are Android compatible (if the respective Android device can be certified/licensed to handle the content like the Xperia Play).

So, yes, there will be some manner of Android App cross-over on the Vita. It won't be a pure Android marketplace, but it will be software coded with Android devices (in some cases primarily) in mind.

Here's further clarification from Sony about Playstation Suite apps:

In addition to downloadable content, the Vita will have cartridge media like DS.

I was with Edmond - this is the first I've ever heard of it. Now that I have heard of it, the answer is...no. If it eventually proves itself worthy, by virtue of the great games available for it, to be included in my library, then maybe. But the PSP so far hasn't proven worthy enough for me, and this might not, either.

Only "PlayStation Suite" stuff doesn't sound like enough to me personally. That implies primarily game content, whereas I was hoping that the Vita could double as a general-use smartphone. While I know that's what the Experia Play is doing, I like the idea of a "real" game-oriented device that can also be a smartphone rather than a smartphone with some game controls.

If they expand this to allow other Android apps, that would be great.

    HAHAHA!

I really hope the flash memory continues and games on disc fade away. The top end for the flash carts is 4 gigs right? So teeny, one could accidentally swallow it...yet it can hold Dead Rising.

They have two sizes and 4 gigs sounds about right for the larger one (Without bothering to check).

It's not the ultimate limit though. Sony has stated if there is demand for additional storage space from developers that they will provide PSV cards with higher capacity. So it's likely only the top end for the opening months of the handheld on the market.

So I'd expect to see it probably grow in the coming years.

I don't plan to pick up one at launch, although it looks to have rather impressive capabilities. Most likely will wait a year or so to pick one up. It's not like I'm lacking games / systems at the moment, lol.

No but it does look verrrry interesting.

I shall see what games come out for it and then maybe a year after launch or so...

According to Gamestop they're $39.99. Same price as 3DS titles.

I bought a psp at launch. However I don't game portably that much. Also sony has pissed me off with this hacking thing and honestly haven't enjoyed my ps3 as much as my 360 or wii. Finally the other problem you have is as John carmack pointed out-smart phones I love mine and it can do gaming pretty well granted I have an android which could use some more games (apple seems better for games)

No, I shan't be purchasing this device, at launch anyway.

It's funny to me though, when PSP was announced I was thinking how futuristic it was that we had a portable with a disc drive in it. Looking back, what a frickin terrible idea.

At least this thing runs on cartridg.. er flash carts? Hopefully some improved battery life.. ???
