Default So i was fixing my NES

I was adjusting the pins on my frontloading NES so i could stop finicking so much with the carts. They are kind tight now and i no longer have to "push" the game down using the spring mechanism to work.
Heck it doesn't work when you push it down, but if i just insert the game and leave it, it works everytime. Should i leave it? loosen the pins? or just call it good?
I guess what i am asking, will it cause any damage to my system? i don't see why not, as it is working like new now...

I've seen plenty of re-pinned NESes that function perfectly in the up position.

I've never known that to be any detriment to the hardware or the cartridges being used.

If you've got tight pins that work every time, I'd say leave it be.

Just don't run any of the gold games like quatro games or big nose, they destroy those new pin connectors for some reason.

Games made by Camerica (Dizzy, Micro Machines, etc.), some say that they wear pins out faster due to using thicker boards.

Which can also be used to loosen up an initially tight replacement connector - or put a game in it and leave it pressed down for a few weeks.

common problem when you tighten the pins too much
just use it in the upward position, and in time the pins will loosen up again so you can play in downward position

I had a similar issue. I thought I tightened the pins too much. Having them too tight could in fact scratch the cartridge connectors when inserting a game. Although they would have to be pretty tight to do that kind of damage. The hard part is they aren't so easy to loosen on purpose. I ended up sticking a small stack of playing cards in it for a day and they were a bit looser, but it still worked 100% of the time playing games.

I know I was. I have a quatro games & big nose for sale right now that made me burn $8.00 on a new connector pin. They literally pulled out the pins on the connector. I opened my nes and it was horrifying.

I'm so glad I have original pin connectors as I can play Camerica games just fine. Micro Machines is too good to pass up.
