Congratulations!

The parallels to the conclusion of Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo are uncanny. I think a dance party should commence immediately in front of the DP store... with jugglers.
I believe this calls for a very special celebratory episode of the DP Podcast
Congratulations on reaching your goal I hope I'll some day have the opportunity to take a trip to the US and visit both the museum and the DP store.

So when do you start hiring?

Seriously - I think I have Pat O'Brien's Hurricane mix I've never opened. I think the main ingredient (to be added to the mix) is rum.
I can bring it along if anyone's interested.
I think Hurricanes, hurricanes, & Beatles Rock Band sounds like a fantastic combination.
Now, what's that noisemaker/partyhat emoticon?

Congratulations! Over $50K on a $30K goal is amazing and should give a huge boost to generating additional interest from donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, etc...This is really very exciting and I think it's neat that so many people contributed.
Thanks everyone!
We have a lot of work ahead of us but I am super-excited that we have a lot of work ahead of us, as the alternative to that would have made life much easier but pretty bleak. One domino down, many more to go, but this one was critical.
I'll do my best to keep everyone "engaged" in this project. It's unlikely we'll ever go the Kickstarter route again as the funding will need to ramp up significantly and we'll spend more time with businesses, locations, and entrepreneurs than our family and friends. We're so happy that you came through for us.
Onward!
WOW a $10,000 backer!
Be sure to autograph that person's collector's guide, and maybe throw in a few extra paperweights.

So, has everything been stolen?

<Evan_G> i keep my games in an inaccessable crate where i can't play them
Seriously, it would be good to have an official statement on this. I had considered donating items to the museum, but if the people who are holding the collection can't even be so bothered as to keep track of the rare, one-of-a-kind items they have in their possession already, why would anyone bother? Did the items get stolen? Did they forget to pay for storage? Why did it take someone finding the items in somebody's back yard to even realize the items were gone? There are a lot of questions here, and people paid $50,000 trusting that this museum might actually be taken seriously.

I agree. I donated to the campaign for this (I can't believe it's been almost two years ago now) and have been a vocal supporter of their efforts, but it seems very little has happened other than them continuing to show up at occasional trade shows and Pax with their mobile exhibits. In the meantime, I see that the Strong/National Museum of Play in Rochester is getting very substantial archives of documents and one-of-a-kind items from many prominent early pioneers in the video game industry. It seems like the Videogame History Museum may have missed its window and the fact that rare items are being stored in unsecured storage units that have now been burglarized is going to make future fund raising and item collection efforts all the more difficult.
... wait, you mean they were stolen and nobody said a peep about it?!
Of course, if you point that out in the kickstarter comments, it's somehow your fault (read the top post):
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...useum/comments
Instead of reading the kickstarter updates page that hasn't been updated in 8 months, you're supposed to go to the official museum website that hasn't been updated in 8 months, or you can go to the facebook page that's only recently been updated after 8 months of silence.
I'm curious if the $30,000 worth of shipping containers were ever purchased. The kickstarter's only written goal was to buy shipping containers and move the items out of that storage locker. It looks like they were never moved. I'd be kind of pissed if i was a donator...
