We're still pretty sure it was an All Star game item. Still don't know how they were really passed out, why there are two different sleeves and why most have shown up in Canada, but there are a good dozen out there now. A few in the white sleeve and a few sealed.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

Like Stu said - haven't had time to update NBA 2 Ball's page.
It's now clear that the "white sleeve" version, which is quite literally a trade demo white sleeve with slapped on stickers is the actual award version. The black version seems to be the one handed out randomly. So far it seems all of them are in or have been Canada.
We're now up to about double digits of confirmed copies.
