Sega CD Model 1 Drive Belt Replacement

So... Just got the electronics fixed as described in my other thread, and after a couple hours of use... Well, the drive wont stay closed. I disassembled it (damn this thing has a lot of parts), its obviously a loose drive belt. When the tray is closed it the wheel on the motor spins loose one the belt, and gives up after a few seconds of not being able to lift up the drive assembly. If I help it along, it works fine. I temporarily got it working again by soaking the belt in hot water for a while and roughening the wheel a little (old trick from tape recorder times), but it will start acting up again soon for sure.

So no question about it: I need a new drive belt.

The question is: where can I get one? Does anyone have a source? Or at least know the exact type needed? Or maybe someone has a spare belt for me?

I just buy O-rings from Advance Auto Parts, I think they've got a multi pack that has a bunch of different sizes in it. I used one of those and stretched it out a bit on a screwdriver handle for half a day, then put it around the pulley. I've fixed two Model 1 SegaCDs this way so far

You get no problems with using a round O-ring on pulleys made for a square one?
I'll go to the shop tomorrow and try to find a fitting one.
By the way, my tray-closed switch was also worn out a bit - some shrink tubing around the top of the switch fixed that, now IF it closes at least it knows so.

I've used an O-ring as well but in a slightly different fashion. I had model 1 with a slightly stretched belt, and what I did was roll an O-ring into the groove of one of the pulleys. This took up the slack & gave the belt a better surface to bite in to.

Lol, at $9 shipping (from the first link) I'll stick to the O-rings from Advanced Auto since I can pick them up the same day as well. They work fine for me and I've yet have issues 2 years later.

Hah, didn't notice that. That takes all of $0.44 to ship. My point, though, is that it's a part carried by most major electronics distributors, so if you have a local/internet place that you like, you'll be able to find it there. I'm sure Digikey, Jameco, Mouser, and all those places have them, and at least one of them has to have reasonable shipping to wherever you are in the world.

I have no problem with getting something to work by whatever means you can, but I know lots of people are anal about keeping their systems as "true" as possible, and would choose a square belt direct replacement over an o-ring, even if it works just the same, but is more expensive.

Unfortunately here in Germany i cant find such a shop, all i can find are places that sell kits for certain old tape recorders or one place that sells them seperately but way too expensive, 5€ (about 8$) a piece plus shipping.

Nope, the FDS uses long, flat belts.
