Default Silpheed designer dies aged 45

    R.I.P., Miyaji-san.

"Silpheed, Gun Griffon and Grandia designer Takeshi Miyaji, who founded Gamearts with his brother when he was just 19, has died at the age of 45. G-Mode, the company he founded in 2000, announced that its CEO passed away on July 29 and that Ryu Okoriyama, former CEO of Gaia Holdings, has been appointed as the developer's new CEO."

That's terrible! He was young, huh?

I love Game Arts. Silpheed on the Sega CD is the bee's knees.

    RIP.

Silpheed on the MS DOS PC sure brings back memories. I believe it was brought over to the US by Sierra and had a picture of the two brothers on the back of the box. I thought that game was so cool back in the days.

Mine too. I actually prefer the Sega CD version.

I'm surprised as small as Game Arts was in the beginning that Thexder isn't on his resume. I preferred that to Silpheed which I found boring (CoCo 3 version if that matters.)

Faria and Alicia Dragoon, too? Dam. Sad to see a guy like that go out too soon. Lunar's one of my favorites to playing in summer. It had everything I ever wanted to see in a RPG and then some. Going to play some Silpheed on SCD now. RIP

Wow... just... crazy... Grandia will always be my favorite RPG but many of the other games he had attachment to were also incredible and innovative. I had no idea he was involved with Zeliard. That game was such a pain in the ass but I still would play it all the time.

Game Arts was one of my favorite studios back in the 90s. They made hit after hit. The Lunar and Grandia games are unforgettable RPGs. The GunGriffon games are some of the best mech games ever made and Silpheed was simply ground breaking on the Sega CD.

They havent been too relevant these past 6 years or so, but I always held out hope for a 360 Gungriffon game and then we got Sylpheed for the 360.

Regardless its sad to see such a talented man responsible for so many classics pass at such an early age. I reminds me of when Satoshi Kon passed earlier this year.
If a god is willing to prevent evil, but not able, then he is not omnipotent. If he is able, but not willing, then he must be malevolent. If he is both willing and able, then why is there evil? If he is neither able or willing then why call him a god?

That's so tragic. There's a little more info here: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/01/ga...es-away-at-45/ It's such a shame to lose a talented man like this that made so many wonderful games. We truly hardly ever see anything like he used to make these days. His games were filled with so much wonder, a true sense of exploration, and so much earnest heart!

I loved the Grandia series. The battle system was great. Thank you Miyaji-San.
