Default Been looking for an old PC game for about 10 years or more

Ok ill describe it as best as i can:

It was around 95-99 release, somewhere around there.

    You played a general.
Your started off with a small army and a little bit of cash
    You played round by round.
You could decide where you placed the units around the map before the action started.
    It was in 3d (ish)
It was set a long time ago. One of the artilary untis is a cannon on wheels with 2 men pushing it.
You got a bit of cash at the end of each battle you won and you could purchase additonal units( i think there was also the option of spending money repairing your units also but not sure)
As far as i can remember the maps werent huge.
Also i dont think you had a base or anything it was just rounds and rounds of battles.

IVe been looking for this game for years, if i find it it will be a miracle. Thanks for any help you might have.

    Cheers

    Zedd

Unfortunately, you just described about a thousand RTS games.

I'd start by going through all the games in this category:

I agree if you could remember something more specific it would be a big help.

Repeating my suggestion for other thread, could it possibly be Sid Meier's Gettysburg?

Was it by any chance a variant of this?

Any chance you could describe the look/feel of the game visually? Futuristic? Medieval?

His description sounds fairly unique as far as real time strategy games go.

I've never played one yet where I can select the placement before starting a level for the soldiers and vehicles provided from the start, for instance (Almost does sound like a videogame version of Risk).

It's going to easily ring a bell for someone, I imagine, that has played whatever game this is. It sounds a good bit different from any RTS game I've played over the years.

You might've had a bit better luck just sticking it in the classic or modern gaming section despite it belonging here. Would've had far more exposure before a moderator moved it. This section of the board is kind of off the beaten path.

Actually, Castles fits some of those criteria, but it's way off on others.

I once read a review of a game about Alexander the Great that sounds like this (except for having canons, of course). Can't think of the title, but I think this game spawned a series of like games so that might give dude a line.

I think the game was called "The Great Battles of Alexander" or something like that. If I find the PC Gamer issue that reviewed it I'll let you know.
