Default What does a PS3 Power Cord Look Like?

    Hello,

I might be considering selling off my fat PS3 to fund some retro collecting, since I barely ever use the thing, with the intention of buying a new slim in a few years when the price gets dropped a bit more.

My original PS3 power cord is lost somewhere in my vast collection of standard PC style power cords, and I have no idea what it looks like compared to the others.

I'm trying to find an image of the end of an "official" early model PS3 power cord so that I might find the original one to sell with the PS3.

    Thanks in advance.

looks just like a standard black 3 pronged computer power cord, call sony they'll ship you a replacement one free, they did that for me when i needed an extra one a few years back

Right, I know what it looks like, and I'm sure it's in this very room with me, perfectly fine and functional. I was just hoping to figure out which one it was out of the 20+ thick black power cords of varying lengths that I had.

    Interesting suggestion though.

You can probably just use a standard grounded AC cord for it? Do they provide different wattage or something I figured it was all the same.

Certainly, I was just having an anal/minor OCD moment and being very picky about getting the specific one.

On second thought, I know that's not the right one, because the PS3 comes with a grounded power cord, not a 3 to 2 prong one, it shows a 3 prong cord in the instruction manual.

Nice try just linking me a random image of a power cord.

I just checked my cord, the one that came with the system. It looks like the one in the picture. Look close it has the grounding prong. Its a standard IEC power cable if I'm not mistaken.

Consider me wrong then. It really isn't obvious at all from that angle, I don't think you could hide it any better if you tried. My apologizes for assuming that image was wrong / just a random image of a power cord.

You're fine, it is that generic. Few would ever be able to identify one accurately.

You could always make it more obvious which one is your PS3 by buying a transparent power cord.

Turns out I'm probably going to sell it to a fellow coworker, who by his own admission can't remember what he ate for dinner last night, and honestly would never even give it a moment's brain effort. I'm clearly the only one who would ever care or notice in this situation. This also explains why I will probably never actively collect CIB for cartridge-based systems. I've been internally debating for years now whether my boxed copy of Final Fantasy III (SNES) counts as "complete" if it doesn't have a dust protector or plastic baggie for the game. (Also, if anyone can tell me if all SNES games came with dust protectors or not, that would be nice to know.)
