    Default Games with omake files

I searched and couldn't find a proper thread about this. I thought there would be; feel free to link me if I missed it.

"Omake" simply means bonus item and can refer to a free figurine or anything like that, but in the context of gaming, it usually means extra files on the disc that can be accessed by a PC. Sometimes they will be in a folder labeled "omake". While it was once decently common, I have no idea if modern games ever do it at all.

So... what all games have it?

It's not really quite what you're talking about, but non-Player's Choice versions of StarFox Adventures have leftover files that are unused in the game. I think the most interesting were some unused dialog for Krystal iirc, that gave a bit of insight into how RARE was originally going to handle the game.

Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast) both have wallpapers or hidden artwork if you check em out on your pc.
DOA Ultimate (Xbox) has an omake folder with character wallpapers, accessed via pc. DOA 2 (Dreamcast) also has character artwork accessible this way.

A lot of Saturn games have wallpapers and such. I think Burning Rangers and NiGHTS, to name 2 of them.

Grandia 2 for the DC has some wallpapers and the like.
Some copies of Tiger Woods 98 for the PSX have a South Park episode.

I just remembered, Sega Smash Pack for DC has a full Windows version of Sega Swirl on the disc.

It seems Sonic Team has a penchant for this. NiGHTS, Christmas NiGHTS, Sonic Jam, Burning Rangers, Sonic Adventure, Chu Chu Rocket, Samba de Amigo ver. 2000 (but not the original), and Sonic Adventure 2 all have wallpapers. I am unable to check Napple Tale, PSO, or Puyo Puyo Fever.

Thunder Force IV (Lightening Force) had some extra unused music tracks labeled "omake" which are only accessible when you finish the game.

Fallout Tactics had rules for a tabletop version and also a pdf with pictures of pieces you could cut out and use for it iirc.

There are hidden graphics inside many PC engine titles.

They're not necessarily hidden on purpose, just leftover example graphics from a CD template provided by Hudson.

Shubibinman 3 on the PCE has an Omake slideshow once you finish the game.

A few Neo-Geo CD games also have omake folders with pics or text files. Aero Fighters 2 and 3 have developers' comments that complain about making a vertical shooter on a hori arcade system.

Omake is so 1990's. Can't we just call them extras? OT: Castlevania SOTN has a remix version of the main theme on track 2. Track 1 is just game data and Alucard's voice telling you not to try and listlen to it.

edit: This is the U.S. PS1 version. I don't know about the japanese, saturn, or psp versions.

Why would we use 2010s terms in a retrogaming forum?

Man, A Boy & His Blob GBO was so janky; the NES SKU was so much better...

"Extras" could mean anything. I was using the term "omake" to distinguish things that cannot be accessed in-game. (Although this is not correct in Japanese, this has been how it's generally used in English with regards to gaming.) The term is reinforced by the fact that some of the games that have this stuff put it in a folder called omake.

Also, omake itself is 1990s. At least, I don't think any modern games have it.

Saturn Pocket Fighter has the awesome screen saver for PC. I've been using that for years on my various PC's.

Akumajou Dracula X - Gekka no Yasokyoku <Symphony of the Night> for Sega Saturn has a whole set of BMP artwork if you place it in the pc. The aforementioned Pocket Fighter does have the awesome screensaver as well, I loved using that on my old systems.

Konami MSX Classics for Saturn has all the games on disc in .bin form, but I never tried to use them on an emulator. Possibly an omake?

Alright already. We'll call them omake. I think the audio files could be accessed from the disk on the ps1 version of Contra Legacy of War.

Whoa, I had NO idea! I'd been using it for the CD audio tracks but never noticed that there was a screensaver on disc. That's cool.

The New Tetris has just about my favourite ever "bonus", a hidden profanity-filled rant in the game ROM: http://tcrf.net/The_New_Tetris

Just about every Dreamcast game to be honest. Some didn't include them, but most Japan-originated games did, especially the ones from SEGA.

Plus, the Sonic & Knuckles Collection (Windows, 1997) contained Sonic the Screensaver which was about 300 mebibytes in size due to all the artwork, sound effects, and music (and the fact the files were BMP and WAV).

The pc engine version of dracula x: rondo of blood has a track on the disc thats a skit with Richter and Maria. It's all in Japanese, but you can find translation for it online.
