How can you tell if a PS1 game is a bootleg?

I'm trying to pick up an import copy of The Raiden Project, and I saw one auction that seemed to have a good price.

But that the stock photo has a different cover art than most pictures I've seen raises red flags, as does the fact that he has six of them.

Is this a bootleg? And also just for future reference, what warning signs should I watch out for?

Ask for a picture of the bottom of the disc. It has to be a black bottom disc.

Well like said, check the bottom of the disc. MOST blank CDs are silver on the bottom. Other than that the usual stuff, badly cropped out of focus or pixelated art on the top.

Black bottom cdr's aren't all that uncommon. i used to make all my backup PS1 games out of them.

These are just poor stock photos, it doesn't reflect what the guy actually has. Why not message the seller asking for an actual photo of the game he's selling? For the record, the first image of the cover of Raiden Project is of the original release. The more common one, these days, is of PlayStation the Best re-release. Call it Greatest Hits of Japan if you will, that's the only difference.

It's really hard to find bootlegs pf PSone games on ebay. PSone are not self boot and require a modchip to load. Guy seem to run a small shop and seem legit, plus if youi have any problems just open a case with ebay.

I see several eBay sellers who have "The Best" re-release. I'm thinking I'll go for that, because I reason if anyone was going to bootleg this game, they'd dummy it up to look like the original rather than the less-collectable re-release.

Honestly, I have never once worried about PS1 bootlegs. The PS1 bootlegs that have passed through my hands were all very obviously not legit. The odds of being duped are extremely slim.

I've seen hundreds of HK silvers and never saw (nor even heard of) a bootlegger replicating a manual.

Not to say someone couldn't stick a bootleg disk in an original case/manual, but that's a lot of effort to do whenever the buyer will instantly know it's counterfeit as soon as it's opened.
