Awesome news. Question, is Y's IV anything like Y's III? Or is it more like the book one and two?
I'm kinda meh on it so far and I am a fan of many of the previous Ys titles. I really liked Ys IV on the PC-E and thought the Super Fami version was ok but this is one I will have to wait and see on. I love the artwork so far but I never liked the Ys 7 engine and, with this being on the Vita, looks unimpressive so far...

Gillian: To look at videos on YouTube...

ill admit the graphics could use a bit of polish, but im very excited by this. i havent found a falcom game i dislike yet.
I have yet to play any game in the Ys series (if I did it was for a short time at most). Any suggestions for where to start or which version/game to shoot for? I've heard of the PSP remakes for some of the earlier titles but this seems to be a series that has a lot of different variations to the individual titles.

Depends which Ys III and IV you look at Ys III was a side scroller for the PC-E/Turbo, SNES/Genesis and for the PS2. It was remade as a 3/4 overhead action/rpg for the PC in Japan known as Oath in Felghana and that, in turn, was released for the PSP....
Ys IV used the original "bump attack" style like Ys I & II and was released for the PC-E and Super Fami though both are different games developed and released by different companies. Ys IV was also remade as a 3/4 action rpg and released on the PS2 and now being remade again for the Vita using the Ys 7 engine....Whew! lol
I won't name every single version released for each title but I'll pick some notable ones:
Ys I&II - All versions use the "bump attack" system where you just kinda run into enemies to attack them. The PC-E/Turbo version is a classic and beautiful music. IMO I love Ys I&II Complete for the PC for which an English patch is readily available. I also love using the Chronicles soundtrack for it (Side note - The PSP game is basically the same but on the go)
Ys III - Side scroller for the PC-E/Turbo, SNES, Genesis and PS2 and a 3/4 action rpg for the PC and PSP. The Turbo version, once again, has great music but some horrible choppy scrolling. IMO I love the PC version the most and I think its' soundtrack is the best version of it (side note - again, the PSP is the same version as the PC just portable..). Though it's not regarded highly, I still enjoy the PS2 version as well
If you wanna see the main titles in action, I have them on my Youtube channel for your viewing pleasure

, I thought you were going to say that Xseed has confirmed that they'll localize the game for the North American market (I gotta admit that this would be my killer app for getting a Vita)...
Me too, but I'm still looking forward to their confirmation. On the upside, by the time the game comes out here, the Vita might drop in price (hopefully!).
Now THIS looks much better! Much more excited for it now...but I'm still on the fence on buying a Vita in the first place Why couldnt Falcom release this for the PS3 dammit!?!?
